Courtenay Councillor--> climate action/ housing affordability/ livable cities/ environment/ active transportation/
it's bleak these days, but I haven't given up on humanity
It's race to the bottom. Every time I read the news I'm furious about yet another announcement flushing climate policy down the toilet in Canada.
This one the same day that our Prime Minister commits to ANOTHER pipeline across BC (while tossing out the few things we had left to reduce GHGs)

If that's the case, the answer at present is no

Maybe there's support from some First Nations behind the scenes but so far, the only public statements from the B.C. government and First Nations is "absolutely not."

Not sure why Ottawa doesn't seem to be hearing that message clearly #bcpoli

It just gets worse- Pipeline to BC's north coast, removal of the industrial carbon cap, lifting the bank on oil tankers, and changes to industrial carbon pricing.
Carney is doubling down to support the further development of dirty oil and coastal destruction

At COP30 Canada just got awarded the fossil of the day — first time since 2014 (the harper years). Clear sign of how Carney’s pro fossil fuel agenda and backsliding on climate policy is being noticed internationally.

Meanwhile in Canada... we are doing away with climate action and pretending CO2 reduction is the responsibility of other countries
China’s CO₂ emissions have been flat or falling for 18 months — a stunning milestone as solar & wind power surge.

With 240 GW of new solar added this year alone, the world’s largest emitter may have already peaked — years ahead of 2030.

The Liberals and Conservatives are very aligned - getting hard to tell the difference between them apart from the leaders. Other MPs will likely be crossing the floor to join the governing party, they won't have to give up any of the policies they stand for.

I wonder if the Carney Liberals will be what saves the federal NDP in the end. For all those that support the Liberals in the last election, it's pretty clear they didn't vote for a progressive party that prioritizes the environment or climate.

more from the budget: tax breaks on private plans and boats, but don't worry REFUGEES will now be on the hook for their healthcare costs. Did they accidently release the Conservative budget?

For those of you who thought the lack of urgency around climate issues couldn't get any worse - Carney's gov seems to be committing to scrapping the industrial cap, while relying on technologies like cap & storage which no climate expert will say is an effective strategy

Canada is abandoning its pro EV policies - EV van production in stopped, while "onshoring production of the Chevrolet Blazer, developing a new Cadillac and retooling the Orion assembly plant in Michigan for Escalades and pick-ups trucks by 2027"- frustrating!

Coyne nails it here - Kirk was no moderate and those who pretend he was (ehem Federal Conservatives) are demonstrating true values
calling actual fascists out is not rhetoric it is patriotic duty
The death of Charlie Kirk did not make him a moderate
He is well on his way to sainthood among MAGA Republicans

MPs can denounce political violence without honoring a person who's life's work was spreading messages of hate against marginalized groups... doesn't seem that complex
Jesus Christ.

A standing ovation — from Liberals too — for Charlie Kirk in the Canadian House of Commons.

You can (and should) oppose political violence without doing all this, you know.

Latest CMHC reports showed Courtenay's vacancy rates have moved to 4.3%
Still lots of work to do around affordable rental availability, but it is encouraging to see a more balanced rental market developing
More new rental units coming up in Courtenay. I wonder if 2025 will be the year we finally see balanced vacancy rates (around 3%)

Courtenay is no place for hate. I'm happy to see the RCMP taking this seriously - it's of course much bigger issue than just damage to property

At this point, has Mark Carney made any decisions that Pierre Poilievre wouldn't? So far he's playing nice with Trump, promising massive cuts to federal programs so he can spike military spending, and passing multiple bills of dubious constitutionality.

An absolutely deplorable record so far.
