I really want ppl w/o Minneapolis connections to understand

You might've heard that Mpls public schools went hybrid bc so many families are in hiding. Well, a coworker just told me that today, during his kid's hybrid class, a kid's apt building was raided onscreen

A woman recording an ICE agent tells him "Shame on you."

The agent responds, "Have you all not learned from the past couple of days?"

"Learned what?" she asks

Then he knocks her phone out of her hand

the best antidote to blackpilling is remembering that every video you see of an ICE thug abusing their power was recorded by an American who volunteered to put themselves in harm's way for the sake of people they've likely never met and never will
/2 In light of that, I am in awe and deep respect of the people who are still showing up to monitor the ICE Gestapo, protect and defend their neighbors, do whatever they can to hold ICE to account and call out their lawlessness. What incredible bravery.

AOC: This has now become what we feared most about ICE for a long time—that it would be used as an anti-civilian force with no accountability. At the end of the day, what we saw today was a murder, and murders in cold blood need to be prosecuted.

not to go all identity politics but I think it’s also because the victims are women
one takeaway from the grok noncon porn thing is that much of the media just isn't interested in an issue they can't pretend has two sides or that doesn't give them an opportunity to shit on the left. Also it would be uncomfortable to justify remaining on twitter after acknowledging it

I'm glad to say that the American edition of House of Lilies:The Dynasty that Made Medieval France is coming out in PAPERBACK next year. ⚜️
In the meantime, the hardback makes a very handsome Christmas present.

This is a good game. I will add:
- a cashmere sweater, whose pilling I removed with excessive vigour
- the approval of several men, whose arguments‘ weaknesses I noted aloud
- my child’s happiness, every time I ask him to unload the dishwasher
Things I, a woman, have ruined, a partial list:
- the frosting of a cake when I used too many crushed peppermint candies & it came out bright pink instead of classy white & frothy
- many conversations that were nice and comfortable until I spoke up
- a pair of wool socks that I washed in hot water

📣THREAD: It’s surprising to me that so many people were surprised to learn that Signal runs partly on AWS (something we can do because we use encryption to make sure no one but you–not AWS, not Signal, not anyone–can access your comms).

It’s also concerning. 1/
PSA: we're aware that Signal is down for some people. This appears to be related to a major AWS outage. Stand by.

The movie analogy here articulates something I’ve been trying to put my finger on since my oldest left home. Good advice in the thread too.
🧵 I have a few thoughts as a single mom of two YA kids who are the sun and moon in my sky and who now live across state lines.

These go out to other parents whose kids have left (for college or a job somewhere else) and are in the throes of grief and bewilderment.

My main message is TAKE NOTES. 1/

To be a person of no consequence, to speak without power, is a bewilderingly awful condition, as though you were a ghost, a beast, as though words died in your mouth, as though sound no longer traveled. It is almost worse to say something and have it not matter than to be silent.
