In 2006 a high school English teacher asked students to write to a famous author & ask for advice.

KURT VONNEGUT - born 103yrs ago today - was the only one to respond.

His reply was a doozy.

ZomboCom stands alone in the ashes of those it was created to mock.
In November 1999, the Zombo dot com website was created as a parody of the creative, but, largely pointless flash intros, which were trending at the end of the 1990s. Welcome... to ZomboCom.

My girlfriend has spinal disk replacement surgery on Friday. It's been a herculean task to get this to actually happen, with much delay and rescheduling due to insurance dragging their ass on granting approval.

She just had a relapse and is going to be incapacitated and w agonizing pain until then.

#GodotEngine #DevLog supplemental. This is a screenshot of what I've got as of Friday.

I think I'm going to want two to four types of enemy. As many as I can implement on Monday in the 2-3 hours I have to work on this daily. #gameDev

Oh. Well! I suppose I am fairly rude.

This sucks a lot, and it's exactly what I thought Bluesky was not supposed to be, invisible-intrusive-algorithm-wise. But then, Team Bluesky has been showing their asses (more rudeness!) a lot lately.

At least we can turn it off.
Wondering why no one likes your posts anymore, even among your friends? It's because @jay.bsky.team and team have decided to hide a huge amount of content from all of our feeds by default.

Here's how to turn it off.

#GodotEngine platformer #DevLog day 5. Finally have ladders working as desired. Replaced the tilemap, too.

Ended up adding a new tile & physics layer for the "ladder intersecting with platform." It's disabled when the player enters the climb state, but collides when we're just running by. #gameDev

Day 4 of working on a platformer in #godotEngine. Trying to get ladders to work the way I want them to. As is, you can climb just fine... but if you stop on top of a ladder or run past it you'll fall down the gap.

Which... fair. But not the behavior I want.

This is also why the entire video game market of the early 70s was "pong clones" despite Atari trying their best to make games that were in some way not Pong. It was all off the shelf parts and easily reverse-engineered if you bought a cabinet.
Watching a mini documentary about pinball machines, and they're talking about how video games were the killer competitor because they "could be made much faster, and much cheaper" and lol. Lmao, as well.

Day 3 of working on a #godotEngine platformer. Took a few days off, back to it. This is the second day of working on mechanics; I've added a placeholder tilemap from a prior game to test the "climb ladder" state I've added. This basically wraps up the player controller.

Continuing work on my small single-screen platformer in #godotEngine 4.5.1. Over the weekend I'll be working on the mechanics - first, the player controls. I'll be using a finite state machine to allow the player to run, jump, fall, and climb.

Here's an exciting screenshot.

Here's an Ink game about time loops I wrote for NaNoWriMo 2023. I also made a godot wrapper for it, but it has more features if you play it by itself, as I never bothered to implement saving or undo in the godot version.

Just started work on a small game, thought I'd share my process. It's Day 1, so I'm planning.

#gameDev #devLog

I'm going to be developing a simple fixed screen platformer in #godotEngine 4.5.1. I'll be creating my own pixel art assets by hand (No AI, ever.)

I've been job hunting since July 2024 - was laid off when they decided to lean more heavily into AI. My partner's been unemployed almost as long, and going into November she's slated for major spine surgery. I'll be the only one able to look for work.

Can you help us with the loss of SNAP?
