New paper led by Dara Etemady: Statistical reporting inconsistencies in experimental linguistics.

We explored language similarity between Querdenken (Telegram) and German politicians (Twitter). In short: AfD’s communication most similar, but parts of FDP and CDU/CSU also find common ground through discrediting left-wing politics.

Rosa Schrift. Hintergrund hellgrauer Elefant: Es wird bei jeder neuen Diskussion über Prüfungsformen, KI-Plagiats-Software dies das (und derzeit führen Bildungsinstitutionen viele davon) immer deutlicher, dass uns LLMs einen Riesenelefanten in den Raum gestellt haben. Er führt uns so klar vor Augen, wie unbrauchbar unser hierarchisches System, das letztlich auf der Bewertung von Leistung basiert, (geworden) ist. Und wir winden uns so sehr. Natürlich müssen Denk- und Schreibprozesse weiter erlernt und geübt werden, niemand zweifelt daran. Aber wir müssen (Zwischen)-Ergebnisse doch nicht ständig und krampfhaft bewerten. Wir könnten die Zeit doch nun auch wirklich dafür nutzen, Studierende beim Besserwerden zu unterstützen. Mich jedenfalls ermüden die ChatGPT-Hausarbeiten ungemein und ich hätte große Freude daran, mit dem Interesse der Beteiligten an Inhalten zu arbeiten und beeindruckende wissenschaftliche Projekte in der Entstehung zu begleiten, statt Kreativität durch künstlich erzeugten Druck zu blockieren.

I’ve been poeming about how my nouns keep conversioning to verbs.
Verb Your Enthusiasm     I recall the first time it circumstanced,   this problem that routines with my words – I was in the kitchen, plating my food,   when my nouns conversioned to verbs.      Friending others with similar troubles, we workshopped hard at it for days,  as we dialogued in search of solutions,    and flipcharted the hours away.     I can’t stop myself languaging weirdly.  Are they called nerbs or vouns? I’m not sure.   The doctors cannot antidote me,  while to poem provisions no cure.     Now I diarise each time they’re eventing – whenever I coffee or Youtube or gift.  I’d podium, too – if I ever won anything, and it weren’t for those medalling kids. Good news from the British Election Study: there's no sign of the reported uptick in sexism among young British men

Bad news: what's going on with middle aged men?
Chart showing the percentage of men and women of different ages who agree with all three statements: 1. Most women fail to appreciate fully all that men do for them 2. Women seek to gain power by getting control over men 3. Most women interpret innocent remarks or acts as being sexist The chart shows that around 5% of both men and women aged 18 agree with all three statements. Among men, this rises to around 15% among men in their 20s and 22% among 35-45 year olds, before falling back to around 12% among 55-65 year olds. Overall 16% of men and 5% of women agree with all three statements
