I find meaning on a simple path: Be the change you want to see in the world. Passionate about many things, but especially climate action, walkable communities, active transportation, democracy, and respect for others. I also like to laugh.
God bless Bruce Springsteen for knowing exactly what to do with the time given to him. There is a time and place for each of us. You'll have to figure out the place for yourself -- but this is unquestionably the time.

The cost of electricity from wind & solar has plummeted & delays to build new gas generation have skyrocketed, leaving the #fossilfuels industry with #reliability as an only remaining selling point. But even that is oversold, as Winter Storm Fern showed this week. open.substack.com/pub/thepower...

A reminder to the news media: “conflicting accounts” is what you say BEFORE the incontrovertible video evidence appears. After that, your job is to ask why one side is lying, not to repeat the lie and pretend no one knows the truth.

So it's not only American military heroes he denigrates and disrespects. This man is a walking (clumsily), talking (aimlessly) insult to everything good and decent about humanity.
After Donald Trump disparaged Denmark’s contributions to NATO, one Danish soldier who served in Afghanistan told Isaac Stanley-Becker, “We were on the front lines, the same as the Americans. That was our job.”
Trump Casually Denigrates the Danish War Dead
The president has revised history when it comes to the sacrifices of America’s allies.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you the Mad King. Sadly, he is surrounded by jesters, so there is likely an unlimited supply of straws.
The message of Trump’s letter to the prime minister of Norway signals that the president “genuinely lives in a different reality, one in which neither grammar nor history nor the normal rules of human interaction now affect him,” @anneapplebaum.bsky.social argues. theatln.tc/U0fviLiM

my 2026 resolution is to stop talking about climate in terms of global mean temperature (will rise a couple degrees, sounds manageable, nobody cares) and start talking in terms of H bomb equivalents (holy shit, seems bad, WTF)
The heat energy we added to the ocean LAST YEAR is the equivalent of:
- Detonating ten hydrogen bombs every minute
- operating over a hundred large power plants continuously for all of written human history
- Five times all the electricity human beings have ever used
Ocean heat content increased by 23 billion trillion joules, which was around 39 times greater than global primary energy use this year. This is the largest rise in OHC since 2017; overall OHC has increased by over 500 zettajoules since the 1940s.

Posts about saving farmland from solar panels are misguided & not always well-intentioned -- since sowing doubt about #climatesolutions is a core tactic of #BigOil's disinformation playbook. You understand why people are easily mislead but #biofuels are a bigger issue. Important facts to know:
The world dedicates a Poland-sized area of land to producing liquid biofuels such as bioethanol & biodiesel. Is there a more efficient way to generate energy?

Putting solar panels on the land used for biofuels, e.g., would produce enough electricity for all cars and trucks worldwide to go electric.

Why #electrify in just one chart: Compare price volatility of piped #naturalgas (dashed line) vs #electricity (dotted line). Electrification isn't just how we reduce #CO2 emissions, it's also how we reduce exposure to the market fluctuations of natural gas.

Trump almost certainly hasn't done his due diligence on the #oil he plans to seize in #Venezuela, but you can bet oil companies have. They may not be so keen to go into a country whose decrepit, leaky infrastructure is spewing #methane plumes visible from space.

The Trump administration wants American companies to modernize oil production in Venezuela. There are many roadblocks to that happening, though, including the country’s huge methane problem.

Trump's timing for pulling the US out of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change says it all. Per @climatecentral.org, weather & #climatedisasters cost the US $115B last year -- and $3.1T total since 1980. But at least #BigOil did well. 🤬

I didn't identify with every aim of neoconservatism -- it put America in some bad places that ultimately contributed to our undoing. But, I share deeply the belief that America can & did further democracy in ways that were a win-win for us and at least some nations where we intervened.

Important insight from @amywestervelt.bsky.social on @drilledmedia.bsky.social providing context for recent US actions in #Venezuala. If you believe #Madurocapture is about drugs, you probably also argue the Civil War was about "States Rights." Some people have a thing for convenient untruths.
Something I see a lot of folks missing in discussions about what's happening Venezuela, particularly around oil, is the role U.S. oil majors' interest in Guyana—and the threat Venezuela posed to it—has in all of it. Explainer here: drilled.media/news/guyana-...
The U.S.-Venezuela-Guyana Oil Triangle
The U.S. interest in Venezuela isn’t just about the oil there, but also about the oil next door in Guyana, and the U.S. oil companies that have staked their future on it.

Not only did #congestionpricing meet its objective to reduce car traffic and air pollution in Manhattan, it also had a positive impact on foot traffic, transit, and local economic activity.
Year 1 data on congestion pricing in Manhattan…

* Vehicle traffic: -11%
* Foot traffic: +3.4%
* Storefront vacancy: -0.9%
* Pollution: -22%
* Revenue for mass transit: $548M

So YES this has been a huge success.
