So this prequel is way less exciting than I remembered. It's a book you should only read if you know the Wheel of Time series and as a prequel is a bit weak outside of very fun scenes. But considering it was written alongside Book 11 it was Jordan getting back on his game!

If people really wanted to know what radicalized me against religious tyranny, look no further than Stargate SG1.

If stories of women escaping slavery and fighting the evil Islamist regime of ISIL doesn't radicalize you just a little bit in favor of those fighting for freedom and equality in Rojava/Syria right now, I don't know what to tell you.

The current zeitgeist is fascinating because I don't think I can remember the last time I encountered this sort of broad militant patriotic sentiment in Canada!

US admin "suggested that it would be a good idea to see if the US would provide a line of credit that could conceivably be drawn on during that transition process from a province to a country," Modry says. He adds the need for that is "very unlikely."

Articles like this are why I am so heart broken by what is happening in Syria/Rojava. It is a modern laboratory of democracy where women's rights were being pushed and explored. Was it perfect? No, but it deserved our support and not our betrayal!

While we do learn about this in Canadian history classes, I'm always shocked we casually skip over the internment of other nationals (Germans, Italians, ect) in BOTH world wars.
it is increasingly obvious to me that there are quite a few americans (surprisingly diverse) that are unaware of the history of the Chinese Exclusion Act and/or Japanese internment

#JanuaryWorldbuilders well the story is called BEERS OF WAR! The Frontier is always violent, but the simmering tensions threatening to explode between Aletown and the Barony Cressia are what drives the plot. The plots and skirmishes that make up that tension are a major factor.
#JanuaryWorldbuilders We talked about weapons and armor, now for the wars. This week's worldbuilding questions are about your fictional world's wars and militaries. Today's Q: Are there any current wars in your WIP and is your MC involved?

Good evening, #JanuaryWorldbuilders!

On the Frontier, open carry is expected! Some towns may make you use a peace bond (wrapping or symbolically sealing a weapon) others have no laws. Some barons are more strict than others.
Good morning, #JanuaryWorldbuilders! What kind of laws exist regarding the use of weapons in your world? Can anyone use or carry them? Are they usable only by a certain class? Or only after you've been trained in its use? Are some weapons banned entirely?

I think that the military science fiction of the 1990s was in a better place because the USSR had fallen and the US had carried out its rapid victory against Iraq which made it feel like swift, dynamic victory could be the norm. The 21st century has undermined that and fiction suffers accordingly.

I think DS9 is what made the Ferengi for the Fandom. Like Quark and his bar are much more well known than the ships bar on Enterprise. Add in all the Quark episodes and subplots and those were some of the best Trek had to offer 👌
My favorite example of this is the Ferengi. They were absolutely a bad joke in early TNG, nothing redeeming or interesting about them. But then DS9 writers had twenty four fucking episodes a season to fill and Quark on the main cast, and goddamn if the Ferengi weren't the best part of that show.

This whole stupid Greenland thing may just depend on how invested Trump's minions in Washington are with it. If it's as usual and Trump is just listening to the last person who talked to him or was bamboozled with numbers and his inner circle never carer about this yay its over! Conversely 1/2

Genuinely frustrated that I started writing this novel in 2017 with the idea that the politics that inspired it couldn't be replicated in the modern Western democracies. Yet here we are.

Really getting hard to ignore the similarities in Athenian arrogance that sank the Delian League (or Athenian Empire) as it mismanaged their own war against Sparta with current events right now.
The trajectory of American politics since post-1945 is far more similar to Athens as it built the Delian League rather than the Roman comparisons we often get in pop culture. One can only hope the hubris that sunk Athenian dominance isn't repeated in contemporary history.
