This is incredibly easy for someone to say if they don't rely on SNAP or government pay. People were going to starve NOW. The Dems saved them NOW so they could potentially save ACA LATER. I doubt you'd be willing to let the shutdown continue if you were one of the millions of people affected by it.

I don't know what these sites do to me, but I'm far too combative here. I see people posting misinfo or hate toward issues I care about and I just have to respond, even though it benefits no one nor convinces anyone.

Not on the same page as many of you about the vote to stop the shutdown. Trump and his lap dogs were hurting Americans with SNAP and job cuts. We couldn’t let that keep happening. Unless you lost your job or SNAP because of the shutdown you don’t know the pain.

What gives me hope is remembering that empathy is our default. Hatred requires distance. Barriers of anonymity. Once you look someone in the eyes, hear their voice, and share laughter, they're no longer an abstraction, but a person.

I'm very happy about the election results tonight. It's a much needed win, and a testament to the power of the people.
It's just... I still wish it didn't have to take us losing so horribly last year for us to get to this point. We'd be so much further along if people actually voted last November.
