You may be a Hoff, but I am the Hoff. The definite article, you might say
No? I genuinely don’t see why people like it
Only recently got into watching Inspector Morse. He's great, isn't he?

This moment in history provides us with incontrovertible evidence that all the conservatives who claim to be extremely devoted to freedom of speech and the right to bear arms, and opposed to the encroachment of tyranny, are completely and totally full of shit.

It's all white supremacy and greed.

Training is not a panacea for a system whose purpose is the application of violence in the name of “law and order.” “More training” is a red herring that police say they need instead of meaningful reform and dismantling.

Budget constraints! BUDGET CONSTRAINTS?!

Funny how there’s always money for the bloody football games, hmm?
America has tried to be a real multiracial democracy for just over 60 years and that attempt has been contested at every step along the way.

The dinner has been held every year, without fail, since 1969.

My football take is that the worst thing that can happen to a university is for sports to be good. None of that money goes towards the land grant university that is the foundation of the middle class. They use every win to whittle away more money from the teaching and research that actually matters

Finishing watching TWBTLATS, thoughts in no particular order:

The bad guys are American and French military working on British soil with the cooperation of the UK government. Are they meant to be NATO? Is this show anti-NATO?

Annoyed with @jeopardyofficial.bsky.social for a clue tonight in which they say Phillipa Foot invented the trolley problem. No she didn’t! As I consistently stress to my students in teaching her paper, she does not present this as a “problem” to be solved.

kind of darkly funny that "gender studies" is the stereotypical "useless degree" because gender studies will help you understand a large and important chunk of the current psychosis in american life

20 years ago was freedom fries. 20 years ago was jokes about W’s intelligence. 20 years ago was a government run by lying racist Christian supremacists. The only difference now is they don’t lie as much and the fascism is more blatant. If you can’t recognize that, shut up about American politics.
20 years ago we were serious people.

My whole life, advocating war has been fed to me as “the adult position,” akin to drinking your coffee black or reading the business section of the newspaper. Let’s be very clear — war is the childish nonsense of impulsive destructive idiots playing baby-brained video games with real human lives.

I hope everyone cheering about Indiana University football also cares about Indiana University the university. Universities are not sports clubs, they are centers of learning and research, and the people who hate knowledge and learning want to placate you with sports.

Watching #twbtlats is just me asking Google increasingly weird questions about fish as I wonder why Salt is just a human with some scales. Why is this the design they decided on? (Unfortunately the answer is almost certainly “because she has to look fuckable”)

The message of It’s a Wonderful Life is that the guy who’s had memory issues since around the same time his brother died of a stroke maybe shouldn’t be in charge of depositing cash, or doing anything that requires short-term memory
To watch a “It’s a Wonderful Life” for the 50th time is to confirm that MAGA is totally bogus.
Even in 1946 nobody was rooting for Mr. Potter.

My favorite version of this is how every year I lived in the U.K., friends were surprised that we don’t have Pancake Day in the U.S. So I, an American Jew, had to explain to secular Christians what Fat Tuesday is and why I don’t celebrate it (yes we have Mardi Gras, that’s still a religious holiday)
I'm sorry, but this is the stupidest fucking talking point.

Guys, it's a holiday celebrating the birth of (from my perspective, and being blunter than I normally would given the context) a dead Jewish carpenter y'all somehow think is/was God incarnate

You can't make that non-religious, sorry.

Here’s an example of what I mean when I say Christianity is antisemitic: Christians call other Christians bad by calling them Jews
