In the last couple of years, on the last lesson I run for a class of student nurses who are about to graduate, I share with them my last thoughts - what i hope they find words of wisdom as they head out into practice.

So this is to the April 2024 class at the University of Essex.

Turning a misunderstood scientific explanation into a ‘gotcha’ meme on social media doesn’t disprove the science.

It just demonstrates that when comprehension stops, ignorance and conspiracy begin.

As with all things we are told, we should IMMEDIATLEY be shown the evidence which should come from a reputable source.

We shouldn't need to ask for it.

We shouldn't need to question that sources veracity.

But currently we do have to ask, and we absolutely must question.

They are called wards aren't they???

While I appreciate the idea is to improve the pt journey, I can certainly foresee times when admitting teams push referrals back to ED until certain investigations are completed

Closing a University campus affects a lot of people. Here, the focus is on the students and the city as a whole.

The loss of the Southend Campus will be a generational issue, with a huge loss in opportunity for locals.

When Essex University’s Southend campus opened, it was a message of hope for a ‘left behind’ UK seaside town. Its closure will be felt far beyond its 800 students, some of whom will not get their degr...

It’s hard to read this without thinking about nursing in the UK.

When universities slip into “survival mode” for nursing this means cutting back on staff time, pastoral support, digital infrastructure, equipment, learning spaces and genuine partnership with students, engagement inevitably drops.
