One way to understand what’s happening is that Republicans want to do to academia - colleges, universities, science, medical research - what they did to labor.

Library use ≆ library advocacy. Yes: visit libraries. Use library resources. Attend programs. And then also: speak up! Defend library workers who are being harmed & criminalized. We 💕 your presence. And we need your voices, too.

Because the folks who want to close libraries have also used them.

Adopted two new calicos this weekend and I can't believe I genuinely forgot how sweet it feels to have a tiny creature follow you everywhere you go around the house. And now I have two!!!!

🚨NEW🚨: Donald Trump is attempting to strip away federal support for libraries. We will NOT let that happen.

Last night the President signed an order to gut the Institute of Museum & Library Services. But together, we know we can show up & defeat it.

Is the new Lady Gaga album going to fix all of my/our collective problems and catastrophes? Probably not. Does it feel like *maybe* it might though during the chorus of Vanish Into You for just a tiny little second? Sure does!!!

Academic institutions won’t hesitate to vilify their staff and students in the face of fascism and right wing donors. What is happening at Columbia is about to happen everywhere. Harvard is only a few steps behind. Please be safe.

Librarian Who Removed Chabad Poster Is No Longer Employed at Harvard | News | The Harvard Crimson
Former Radcliffe Institute librarian Jonathan S. Tuttle is no longer employed at Harvard after he was filmed tearing down a poster showing the faces of Israeli hostages during a Harvard Out of Occupied Palestine rally on March 3, a University spokesperson confirmed Sunday.

Left-wing censorship was a fantasy, but the right-wing censorship is real, unconstitutional, and murderous. There was no majority anti-conservative social media bias or casual forced use of words like “birthing person.” But stripping protest rights and official language is actual deadly censorship

Important daylight update for those who also suffer from the creeping darkness of winter in their brains: I did NOT have to drink my morning coffee in pitch black darkness today and that feels like a win.

I think what upsets me the most is that a few racist politicians spent decades dangling the shiny keys of overturning Roe in front of American Evangelicals, hoping that sleeping giant of a voter bloc would give them the power to reverse our civil rights progress…and it worked.

If you want to read a new book coming out but don't want to buy it, a great thing you can do is ask your local library to order it. The more requests they get, the more likely they are to acquire it and then lots of people will get to read it who othewise wouldn't.

Came across this really cool grasshopper laden bookplate, likely from around 1891, while cataloging today.

Anyone have suggestions for other weirdly assembled taxidermy that my nearest and dearest and I can plan an elaborate road trip to see? Pls and thanks! 🐧 ❤️ 🦭
@marvelousthing.bsky.social its like PEM’s penguin! MAXIMUM WALRUS 🦭
The Horniman Natural History Gallery features this stunning walrus.

It was transported to England, purchased in 1886. There, the taxidermists, having never seen one in the wild, stuffed it until the wrinkles smoothed out.

This is a fully inflated walrus, my friends.
