As today is world whale day, I've prepared something wonderful for you all! This is Squalodon, namely the species S. whitmorei, the largest member of the genus! It has a comparatively shorter and wider rostrum than S. calvertensis, and a larger body size too! (6-8m(?) max!)

But - we find the two species of Quetzalcoatlus as not closely related! That is, the huge type species Q. northropi and the smaller Q. lawsoni are not each other's closest relatives - Thanatosdrakon and several unnamed specimens get in the way. What does this mean???

(For the non-palaeo folks, this is in light of a newly published paper re-establishing that #Nanotyrannus, previously understood to be a juvenile #T.rex, is indeed its own genus after all.)

Have you seen the Hatzegopteryx gliding across the sky or fighting others on the ground for their fresh kill, since its TLC? What has been your favorite moment with the flying colossus?

I'm pretty confident that certain online people are going to be cheering about how they were right all along on Nanotyrannus. Their take will be that they were right all along and their arguments, based on private specimens of uncertain provenance, photos of things without scale bars, and ideas...

After a month or so, we return to the Kem Kem with this adorable critter - the metre-long Araripesuchus! There are many species of Araripesuchus, but the one here is A. rattoides, which sports protruding teeth on the front of the lower jaw.
