Anniversary of a trauma that echoes down the years.

What happens when you put government guns on the street, from Iran, to USA, to any number of massacres & atrocities against civilians down the years.

As the world moves on, the families of Bloody Sunday innocent victims have to endure, resist

I'll never forgive Bono for writing "Sunday Bloody Sunday" as a both-sides-y obfuscation of what happened that day (or for singing it in honor of Israel while the Gaza genocide was starting up)

Just finished Herbert Marcuse’s Counterrevolution and Revolt. Really prophetic book from the Nixon era about how left-wing movements can move on when there is no clear political agent for progressive change and far-right authoritarianism is on the rise.

I could probably talk at length about how DRM and AI are the same scam, presented as inevitable by the tech industry while being entirely unfit for purpose.

DRM made me very mad when I was a tech editor, but at least it wasn't a plagiarism lie machine that cause people to kill themselves.

My main takeaway of the Pretti assassin name leaks is they’re both long term veterans of 12 and 8 years respectively

They weren’t six month new hires

The Camera department is famously usually the most misogynistic part of any film crew. Trainees are often young girls, always working for older men, there’s no HR on film sets, and as a camera trainee you are totally dependent on your direct superiors for the next gig, so victims rarely speak out.

Something that really strikes me about Irish conservatives is their antipathy to Irish traditional culture and the Irish language. It’s a bizarre post colonial cultural cringe.

The allure of Bridgerton is you catch yourself saying things like "I think I would be a Colin." or "I think I would be a Daphne" and actually I would be a toothless Irish peasant whose lifetime of tennant farming paid for one of Benedict's waistcoats.

I appreciate the upstairs/downstairs business they're doing this season but it does just remind me that even my beloved Bridgertons won't be spared if this series ends how I hope*

Season 4 is a Cinderella plot but the Wicked Stepmother might be the most beautiful woman I've ever seen so any time she's horrible to the main character part of me is like "I could fix her"

I'm watching the new series of Bridgerton and I'm reiterating that Adjoa Andoh is my fancast for Granny Weatherwax in a Witches adaptation.

I once attended a v serious discussion where a military consultant explained that speed of decision making was, in the current theories of war, considered more important in battle than the quality of any particular decision. So the deployment of instant confidence AI machines was likely inevitable.
Seems like one of those issues that should greatly concern everyone regardless of their politics.

this is what the AI bailout looks like. if we all kayfabe that AI is inevitable, then no matter how much money the government gives Sam Altman for slop like this, the return on investment is always infinite, therefore the government should give Sam Altman all the money
