This is the first piece to tell me the Court of Appeal in May 2024 ordered, what should be a temporary injunction, to stay in place until July 25, when the issue would have to be considered again.

There were 8 media organisations represented against the injunction yesterday-‘unusually the BBC was not a party.’

Superbly written, detailed account of this extraordinary case @joshuarozenberg.bsky.social
Well worth a read for those who care about both privacy/security of those at risk of harm and responsible journalism/free speech. And demonstrates how impressive are our senior judges

Can't recommend this strongly enough. A great read. And one of great personal interest for me because my grandfather was a manager at these steel mills in Scunthorpe back in the 1940s/50s.
✍️I visited British Steel last week - just as workers were discovering that the plant's Chinese owners were effectively planning to starve the blast furnaces to death.
It was a strange, unsettling experience. With deep ramifications. Some thoughts: edconway.substack.com/p/the-strang...

The tariff debacle has no more to do with wanting to return manufacturing to the US than his attacks on universities have to do with sincere concerns about antisemitism. These are mere pretexts to hide darker agendas of greed and grievance, power plays and corruption.

I like the taste of meat but on no count is it worth it when we have many other options which I also enjoy. Those counts include but are not limited to the industrialised 24/7 killing of animals since supermarkets showed up, human health and ecology.
Despite being advised by the Climate Change Committee to reduce the production & consumption of meat/dairy, the UK government has funded, every year, campaigns to *increase* their consumption: shorturl.at/mWMkq
So here's a petition to ask for the promotion of plant-based foods: shorturl.at/HS5Ig
WHY ARE WE STILL BEING TOLD TO EAT MORE MEAT?

‘Further, no company would undertake the big capital costs associated with reshoring its factories without having more clarity about the post 2028, post Trump future of the United States. In addition, many countries would find other ways to keep manufacturers within their borders.)’
Trump again showed how weak he is but threats remain both to the economy worldwide and to democracy in America and they ought to focus our attention. In fact, the peril is so great, there is really only one issue before us all. My latest. open.substack.com/pub/davidrot...

‘The big systemic danger is what’s happening in the US bond market. Something v unusual is happening to US govt debt: typically, in any moment of economic crisis, investors demand for US bonds goes up.’ But now global financial markets are averse, treating the US as if a problematic emerging market
In economics, as in geopolitics, Trump fundamentally misunderstands the limits of American power. It is at the centre of everything he does. The markets, the only real impediment to him now, may be about to teach him how wrong he is.

New writing from me.

Remember Trump is using emergency legislation for the tariffs.

So the measures that were urgent and necessary to meet that emergency have now suddenly become non-urgent and unnecessary.

If US congress and courts properly held president to account for misuse of emergency powers, this would matter.
