Rise of Skywalker has major plot points so mind-numbingly awful (Palpatine, the wayfinder outline, etc) they are able break the suspension of disbelief in a cinematic universe where nobody cared when teddy bears with rocks defeated an army with laser guns and anti-gravity tech.

It would be one thing having a "debate" on immigration if people meant they wanted a "debate" based on facts. But what most people seem to mean when they say they want a debate is that is they want us to pretend a bunch of entirely made up bullshit is true.

My takeaway from every new Epstein revelation is that some powerful people victimized many powerless young women, many more knew, some actively enabled it--and we're still being told that MeToo and accountability for sexual violence have gone too far

A great day for the golden rule of political analysis: when the right wins it is a resounding ideological victory that humiliates the left and when the left wins it is a precarious fluke that will surely end up humiliating the left. Conservatives are power’s landlords and the left merely tenants

Can't overstate how fucked up it is that unraveling what is arguably the greatest achievement in the history of humanity is now a motivating issue of one of the two dominant parties in the U.S.
FL is moving forward w/ plan to end all childhood vaccine mandates. Starting with hepatitis B, chickenpox, and the bacteria causing meningitis and pneumonia. Then next year GOP FL legislature is expected to revisit 1977 law re: whooping cough, measles, polio, rubella, mumps, diphtheria, and tetanus.

McGee v the Attorney General was one of the most important decisions for women in this country’s history. Astonishing now to think that May McGee had to fight for the right to use contraception given the risk to her life. These rights are so hard-won and must - it now seems - be constantly defended

Can you imagine TDs scrambling to change the Constitution or commentators hand-wringing in the media if it was leftists who behaved the way the spoiled vote crew did, in the same (minority) numbers, after several bigoted riots. Not so much forced to pander to them as willingly taking a running leap.

Funny comments under the FT piece, but worth noting:

“Hard-left” is now used to mean “social democratic”, while “hard-right” and "populist" are the polite terms for “far-right”.

The linguistic drift tells its own story.
