God my last couple of tweets really do make me seem like a lib though

Amused by the discourse cycle and wish David Gra*ber were here to chime in since he called me a fascist on Twitter in 2016 for criticizing black bloc agitation performed by young white men during BLM and that is a salt I will never let go of
the asymmetry is wild, honestly. `lib` is inclusive and tacitly accepts that many of its nominal members hate its leaders and disagree with many of its tactics. `leftist` requires you to refrain from criticizing a wide range of things, or you aren't one

I ID’d this a few years ago, drawing a line between people who were hipsters in the late aughts and Bernie purists, chapo listeners, etc around 2016
Reactionary leftists are also people who are perpetually positioning themselves in reaction to others in their own, often quite specialized social group, which is definitionally pretty exclusive, hence the reflexive suspicion of mass action today (as opposed to escatological mass action tomorrow.)

Thinking this through out loud, I'd define a reactionary leftist as someone reflexively adopts the position of "I am smart and savy because I belong to the small clique of people who are correct, and everyone else is wrong, always."

Race as a construct is so powerful that only now are many people saying ‘they are killing us’.

They have been killing us. We have all been us the whole time.

I think opposition to abortion is actually a great place to situate a working definition of fascism. The baseless desire for control over the bodies of an underclass, reaffirmed as such by that control.

This bill by a Washington State Democratic legislator would prevent any law enforcement agency in the state from hiring anyone employed as a sworn ICE officer after January 20, 2025. A good start, I say. Make them outcasts.

someone asked why I would appropriate an "evil" speech for the cause of woke, so I'll spell it out:

the speech exemplifies how confidently asserting your values has the power to define an entire cultural moment, and I want people in the service of good to think about how we can wield power that way
The point is, ladies and gentlemen, that woke, for lack of a better word, is good. Woke is right, woke works. Woke clarifies, cuts through and captures the essence of the evolutionary spirit.

I like that they’ve given up on even having immigration enforcement as a pretext for any of this. It’s just purely armed masked goons wandering around in the middle of intersections harassing U.S. citizens as a display of force now.
Today at 34 & Park in Minneapolis, a woman tried to drive down the street where a protest had broken out in front of a home ICE was raiding, saying she had a doctor apt to get to. ICE agents busted out her windows, cut off her seatbelt, and pulled her out before arresting her.

Today’s Executive Order creating a *nationwide* military “quick reaction force” and setting up an online portal to permit random fascist vigilantes to join soldiers is one of the scariest things I’ve seen in U.S. politics in my adult life. Why is it not getting more attention?

the reason people sometimes act madder at democrats than republicans when republicans do impossibly evil shit is the same reason why, if you hired an exterminator to handle a roach infestation and he showed up to feed and play with them instead, your first instinct wouldn’t be to yell at the roaches

Essentially, I think that LLM-generated dialogue only makes sense if you believe that the product of writing is words.

But the product of writing isn't words, any more than the product of justice is prisoners, or the product of love is weddings. The product of writing is meaning.

Incredibly useful tool for bad, lazy researchers and those who need to make a pretense of research
Did you know that from tomorrow, Qualtrics is offering synthetic panels (AI-generated participants)?

Follow me down a rabbit hole I'm calling "doing science is tough and I'm so busy, can't we just make up participants?"

Since everyone’s talking about disability right now something I think about is in college one guy had an adderall scrip and all the women who bought study buddies off him for like $10-20/pill have all since been diagnosed with adhd. So just funneling money from undiagnosed women to diagnosed men

Is there a word for this reason from/reason to concept?

I often have thought this way about race, and that I am where I am because as a naive child I accepted those elementary school civil rights history premises that black and white people were equal, and when that premise became dissonant…
this is something they reason from, not reason to

it's a bit like you can't reach the conclusion that there is no god within an orthodox christian framework, god is a premise of that worldview, not a conclusion of it
