My first formal remarks as mayor-elect: When I say, “This is your city,” I mean you have a right to be here, no matter your background. But I also mean that we have a collective responsibility to this place and each other.

We took on a powerful incumbent who was expected to coast to reelection.

We faced more corporate PAC money than has ever been spent attacking a candidate in a Seattle election.

We built a people-powered movement rooted in hope for our city’s future.

And we won.

This is YOUR city!

This was the most terrifying thing from Harrell’s speech today. Straight up right wing election fraud conspiracy theory propaganda. I’m very very worried for our democracy if this is happening even in Seattle. Thank god we got rid of him hopefully forever🤞
Astonishing. Bruce Harrell borrows the MAGA playbook of casting doubt on the election. He's claiming voter fraud, that high voter turnout is suspect. Literally besmirching the integrity of King County Elections. Absolutely disqualifying. Expected from a narcissist

If you took the words Harrell said about the election results and asked 100 people in Seattle who said it-all 100 would say it must be Trump. Disgraceful.
Harrell can't believe that a ton of people voted because they saw that Katie Wilson knows their struggles and will take action. It's YOUR city!

Now that's the way to welcome in a new generation of leaders! Thank you @govjayinslee.bsky.social !
I'm looking forward to the great policy ideas that these two are bringing to their new roles. I know their commitment to community engagement will make them successful!
Congratulations to Girmay Zahilay, new King County Executive, and Katie Wilson, new Seattle Mayor, bringing fresh, youthful leadership to Washington State.

I notice Karoline Leavitt didn't wear her 2-lb. golden cross, because she knew she had to tell some particularly grievous lies today ...
As Karoline Leavitt concludes her press briefing and walks off, @andrewfeinberg.com asks: "What was the president doing with Virginia Giuffre for hours at Epstein's house?"

She did not respond.

Very excited about Katie becoming mayor AND about Wes Mills @oowm.org becoming the new TRU General Secretary. Wes has the smarts, values, and dedication to continue to build TRU in its new roles and initiatives. Wes's fantastic sense of humor will really help too!
As Katie Wilson strengthens her lead in the race for Seattle mayor, people at the advocacy organization she founded are “over the moon” about her potential win — and they're anxious to see what her possible term in City Hall could mean for the issues she's championed with them.

"[Wilson] supported a capital gains tax to raise revenue, a move opposed by Harrell, stronger protections for renters and improving public transit.

"Fincher said that message resonated in a city where housing has become out-of-reach for many of its citizens."
Progressive on the edge of a win in Seattle mayor race
Katie Wilson pulled ahead of a moderate Democrat in a campaign that focused on the cost of living in one of America’s most-expensive cities.

Documenting this would be important! Seattle politics used to be called too nice. Harrell took it all the way to mean, vindictive, and corrupt. But it’s your city now Seattle friends! Integrity is coming to the mayor’s office!
I really hope some news outlet covers the widespread threats & intimidation used by Harrell + his team to get orgs and individuals to not support Wilson, or to change their support. It’s just really trash behavior; it’s concerning how many people were scared of him.

This economics is really important to understand. The goal is feeding people - as many people and as much food as possible. I appreciate that hauling a heavy bag of soup cans to your local food bank feels really good, but if you can donate dollars it will feed more.
spoke with the executive director of my local food bank today and got this really incredible line: "if you donate 1 can of green beans, we can give away 1 can of green beans. but if you donate a dollar, we can give away 6 cans of green beans"

Smart of Wilson to wait for all the votes to be counted. But I’m still celebrating. Our city is going to be led by a wonderful human being, a progressive policy wonk, a skilled organizer, and a dedicated public servant. Go Katie Go!
Katie Wilson is now almost certainly Seattle's 58th mayor. We spoke just now: "We’re going to wait for all of the ballots to be counted, but I think we won this race." www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news...

Such beautiful news from the Emerald City, where @wilsonforseattle.bsky.social personifies the emerging young Democratic wave. Lucky Seattle!
JUST IN: Katie Wilson significantly extends her lead in the Seattle mayoral race.

She now leads Mayor Bruce Harrell by 1,346 votes, or 0.5%.

That's up from the squeaker-lead of 91 votes in yesterday's update). She won today's batch of nearly 6K ballots by 20% (!).

Not much left at this point.

Amazing job to my fellow Katie door knockers! I also had such fun leading canvasses with so many wonderful Seattle-ites!
Two million dollars in PAC words bought Harrell a razor thin margin.

52,000 doors knocked by several hundred Wilson volunteers ensured it wasn’t in his favor.

Good job, everyone. Go to Stoup tonight to celebrate.
I’ve seen enough. Congratulations @wilsonforseattle.bsky.social on becoming the 58th Mayor of Seattle.

With basically all the ballots in the city of Seattle's mayoral election counted, Katie Wilson is now above 50 percent, with Mayor Bruce Harrell sliding to 49.6 percent. They're currently within the mandatory recount requirements, but machine recounts don't generally change things much.

One of my favorite things about @wilsonforseattle.bsky.social is that she’s not afraid of a difficult fight.

It’s one of the things that has the potential to make her an incredible, transformational mayor.
Eight months ago, Katie Wilson declared her intention to run and all the conventional powers-that-be said she didn't stand a chance of winning.

Remember that we don't always know what is possible.
Wilson now leads in the Seattle mayoral race by 91 votes. Prior to today, Harrell had been leading by 4,300 votes, but this latest vote batch netted Wilson 4,391 votes.
