We seem to have an impressive tolerance for oppression.
I continue to wonder when Americans will decide enough is enough. As Frederick Douglass reminds us:

“The limits of tyrants are prescribed by the endurance of those whom they oppress.”

Why isn’t he doing his job, and why isn’t the press holding him accountable? Ask the question, and make him answer.
it's time for journos to start asking Johnson meta questions

"Speaker, on 5 occasions last week you said 'I haven't seen it' when asked about news events w/big implications for public policy. Do you ever read the news, and do you agree it's problematic for the Speaker to be so woefully uninformed?"

This is the way:
As a teenager I learned Arabic & Swahili because we had nextdoor neighbors from Tunisia & Kenya. Also learned their folk songs & dances & how to prepare their ethnic dishes. As a young mother, I learned Japanese, including culture & ethnic dishes, from a Japanese neighbor. Enriching for me & family!

Fire them. Prosecute them.

The Overton Window must be moved back.
The current homepage of USDA. This is deeply and profoundly fucked up. And illegal. People need to go to jail.

I went up Flagstaff last night and caught it! So happy to see it before it’s gone.
Reminded me of my dad, and the time he took me, just a little kid sitting on his shoulders, out in the middle of the night to see a comet. 🥲

This is an affront to our nation and patently unconstitutional. We are ALL under threat.

Donate. Vote. Fight.
I have been charged in a federal indictment sought by the Department of Justice.

This political prosecution is an attack on all of our First Amendment rights. I’m not backing down, and we’re going to win.

Fascinating thread, about a narrative that was unquestioned at the time, yet an outright lie. I remember this, and I hate that I didn’t question it, either.

1/? I want to explain why I keep telling Black people to stay off of social media and not do interviews about lost SNAP benefits. Let the white folks do the complaining. I was coming of age when Reagan was going after the "Welfare Queen". She was the single Black mother. They even had a poster woman

Give local. They’re out there already.
as we reach the SNAP cliff just a gentle reminder to do-gooders that the most efficient use of resources is to contribute to organizations that are already established. unless nothing exists in your area (and it likely does whether you know it) now is probably not the time to stand something up

If you do this and you’re NOT a despotic authoritarian you get a big sign across your door that says “STOP WORK ORDER”
By proceeding with the demolition of the White House East Wing before seeking approval from federal agencies for a new ballroom, President Donald Trump forced the issue. It's a strategy known as "stake-driving."
How Trump Demolished the White House East Wing
By putting the demolition of the East Wing before the necessary approvals for his ballroom, President Donald Trump borrowed a tactic known as “stake-driving” to force an outcome.

Rights are universal - not just for those who can afford to leave Texas.
As a white person, if you think telling MILLIONS of Black people in the south to simply MOVE AWAY to a “blue state” is not only going to SPARE them any suffering in this country but is even financially feasible for everyone, please put a bag over your head and breathe deep.

President Trump has demolished the East Wing of the White House to make way for his planned $300 million ballroom.

From start to finish, it only took a few days to destroy the more than century-old structure.

“This Space For Lease!”
The White House is "the people's house."

But now, corporate interests are paying millions to fund the construction of a gilded ballroom to curry favor with President Trump.

This is a physical representation of the rampant corruption that has escalated over Trump's two terms.

A thoughtful examination of the Platner debacle, and why it matters. 🧵
1. Graham Platner is an oyster farmer and Marine Corps veteran who’s running for the United States Senate in Maine. He’s trying to knock off Susan Collins. He’s presented himself as a common-man candidate who stands against oligarchy, genocide and the oppression of the little guy.
