Tom Lehrer was a gateway drug for me, I now realise, for Noam Chomsky. Anyone else have the same experience?

The politics of Tom Lehrer: Noam Chomsky with a Piano?
Tom Lehrer died, aged 97, in late July.  Lehrer had written 37 (well, a few more) songs in the 1950s and 1960s, and on the basis of this is still (rightly in my opinion) regarded as one of the…

Earth, too, obeys creation's immutable laws.
But we, rebellious offshoots, ingenious fools,
Destroy and corrupt, always in more of a hurry;
Spreading the desert to the forests of the Amazon;
To the living hearts of our cities; to our very own hearts.

"Of Revenge" by Francis Bacon -

“That which is past is gone and irrevocable and wise men have enough to do with things present and to come; therefore they do but trifle with themselves, that labour in past matters.”

Maybe so, but it's more complicated, no?

“But it is not only the difficulty and labour which men take in finding out the truth; nor again that when it is found it imposeth upon men’s thought; that doth bring lies in favour; but a natural though corrupt love of the lie itself”

Anyone who doesn’t see this potentially happening hasn’t been paying attention. I know the things I spend my time on would certainly put me on lists for this.
And the concentration camps will eventually be populated by non-immigrants too, interned by ICE thug army Trump is raising using $156B that Congress idiots approved. We are watching our democracy be dismantled &, in fact, we’re funding it. What a country…
People are invested in saying these aren’t concentration camps because they do not want to believe we could be so ugly.

But we can. And we have.

Since I wrote this in early November the Carney government has admitted they are not on track for 1.5 or 2 degree targets, and said they'd need a "significant change in policy" to get on track, and then promptly signed a pipeline MOU with Alberta and rolled back more climate rules..
Canada has abandoned the 1.5 and 2 degree targets
What does it mean to abandon something? It means to “cease to support or look after (someone); desert,” to “give up completely (a course of action, a practice, or a way of thinking)” or to “discont…
