Since #TheHollowMen & #DirtyPolitics were published, I haven’t had much respect for Matthew Hooton, but his opinion piece in the latest - and possibly last - edition of Metro Magazine, was both balanced and incisive - this line sums it up:

“No cash or operating surpluses are forecast ever again.”

Q: “Are you affirming you think Trump is a fascist?”

TRUMP: “That’s ok, you can just say yes.”

ZOHRAN: “Ok. Yes.”

Of course it’s not failing landlords and the propertied class to cut social housing - less social housing generally means higher rents and house prices.

Look. What I say to you is this.

We said yesterday that we're cutting the cost of gas guzzlers for kiwi battlers on struggle street.

Our Mitsubishi ASX example costs $1,600/yr in fuel more to run than an EV. When we shift all cars to RUC it'll be $1,900/yr more.

Luxon maths in action.

Gutting of Zero Carbon Act crashes bipartisan climate consensus
It took more than a year of painstaking cross-partisan negotiation to land the Zero Carbon Act. Now, the Govt is gutting it unilaterally, Marc Daalder reports

1. This is a thread on freedom, and how easy it is to lose.

Over the past 2,000 years in Europe, there have been few periods and places of freedom. For much of the time we lived under highly oppressive tyrannies of various kinds, whether small or grand, local or imperial, secular or religious.🧵

Rod Carr calls it: Govt’s ETS changes are a gift to polluters, not people. By unlinking the carbon market from NZ’s climate targets, they’ve crashed prices, gutted credibility, and handed control to vested interests. Strong & stable? Try weak & captured. #nzpol www.carbonnews.co.nz/news/35966/g...

What are they doing over the ditch? They could have had a flacid Emissions Trading Scheme instead of these ridiculous, distorting subsidies. Idiots.

MPs should have to do this all the time, it would reduce emissions, improve #nzpol relationships and likely lead to more bipartisan/multiparty legislation.
