Being a journalist is sick: I just contacted a pre-eminent jaguar conservationist in Argentine with a question that has been weighing on me for ages and he wrote back right away with an informed answer.

The Trump Admin constantly tries to tell us that only woke blue states are moving toward clean energy. The speed and scale of the wind, solar and energy storage buildout in Texas tells a very different story.
Texas power buildout in one picture: wind (green) laid the foundation, solar (yellow) is the new wave, and energy storage (purple) is clustering around load. This is the grid transition, mapped.

In year one, Trump’s policies have SLOWED - closed, delayed, etc. - 70 clean energy manufacturing projects worth $74B and 68,958 jobs.

109 projects have still ADVANCED - moving toward construction or operation - worth $61B and 61,107 jobs.

Photo by Pierre Lavie. Yes this is me. And I threw my Leica. It landed on the bass plate with hardly a scratch. Another Photographer grabbed it along with my phone and I was able to track him later. I was held face down tear gas deployed right in front of me and pepper sprayed directly into the eye.

Every morning & afternoon, Namibia's mesmerizing Deadvlei comes alive in a symphony of light, shapes & shadows. Two beautiful trees seem to reach out, to hold on to each other, as the shadows creep in & the last line of light recedes.

Even by Trump's standards, his comments on the global wind turbine market were incredibly misguided, so was really happy to contribute to this fact-checking piece. To be fair, many smarter people have also gotten the wrong idea due to all the hype about China's dominance of clean tech.
🪁Experts tell us Donald Trump has got the Chinese wind energy market all wrong. "European turbine manufacturers still dominate the market outside of China, the complete opposite of the picture Trump was painting" @laurimyllyvirta.bsky.social

When I used to do more talks about climate change, a question I used to get a lot was how do I have "hope."

And one time I broke and was there's a right side and a wrong side, and this is like asking me if I would join the nazis if I knew they were going to win.
We need to pick up this Overton Window and throw it as far as we can. Stop waiting for shit to “be popular” and start advocating for what is transparently right.
