2026 MEDIA THREAD:

Gonna try this thing again for this year and see how far I get. Gonna not just post Letterboxd reviews and try to be more inclusive; stuff like video essays, comics, music albums, etc.

Between this and the photos of African-American citizens picketing screening of the film “Song of the South” at the time of its release, it’s important to do a bit of research when naysayers say things like “people didn’t complain back then” because almost every time, they did.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018)

Parasite (2019)

All You Need Is Kill (2025) [2026 USA release]
Have asked this before and always like the responses. What are your biggest “I saw that in the first run cinema” flexes? Couple of mine:

Transformers: The Movie (1986)
Batman: Mask of the Phantasm (1993)
Office Space (1999)

I've always loved both Lucky Luke and Astérix. With the original authors now gone, I find Lucky Luke's approach of getting a new creator and letting him loose much more interesting than Astérix's, which is to mimic the original look and feel as much as possible. Bonhomme is doing a phenomenal job.
i never really cared for lucky luke before but ever since Matthieu Bonhomme took over as the artist, i got REALLY into it, it's such a gorgeous comic

Enough about "anime references in Western media".

We need to let "cartoon references in Japanese (and other Asian) media" shine some more, because some of these are very unexpected and interesting given the source material, even if you don't look at the Westaboo-filled Studio Trigger. (1/2)

This is such a shame because Thai spirits and folklore are so fascinating and underrepresented in western media. What an absolute waste of art and story. Animation continues to be decimated again and again. :C
Matt Braly has shared never-before-seen development artwork from his canceled feature film at Sony Pictures Animation.

The project centered on a young boy who embarks on an emotional journey into a fantastical realm of Thai spirits, hoping to find a cure for his illness.

my opinion on the Bad Bunny halftime show, and non-English music in general, is that i think a need to “be able to understand the lyrics” displays an embarrassing shallowness of the speaker to appreciate the voice as an instrument & to appreciate music as something other than a lyric delivery system

We’re still in Black History Month, so here’s something cool I recently discovered:

The Aunt Jemima brand has long been controversial for its use of a “mamie figure” and in 1972, an artist drew a painting of the character with more black power in mind.

I'm really tired of artists on social media feeling like they need to explain their art.

I don't mean OC lore or background info, I mean the recent trend of artists having to do professional PR statements whenever a piece they've done blows up and gets chewed up by the internet virality machine.

There was a Ring ad that everyone hated and an Alexa ad where the subtext is “everyone assumes this thing is trying to kill you” so I think they gotta rethink some shit over there.

If you fellow yankees were in certain animation circles 2 years ago, you heard about the buzz this miniseries got overseas in certain areas.

The United States version is now out, and I've made a review detailing some of the changes they made to appeal to us.

A Norwegian mutual introduced me to these guys when I asked him about flash animations from Norway. @flashitpancast.bsky.social

They did have some flash games, but even if I can’t find them now, these designs are good enough on their own for me to appreciate.
