Please, it's been a long, hard year and I do not need pickle-stuffed latkes, or chicken nugget latkes, or hot dog latkes. And I sure as hell do not need deep fried cauliflower masquerading as a latke.
(But I will continue to eat my latkes with cheddar cheese).

Alberta Justice Colin Feasby’s decision on a proposed referendum question affirmed it would violate Treaty Rights, Section 35 of the Constitution, and the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. It's a decision the Confederacy of Treaty Six Nations is applauding.

The next time someone tells you Islam is incompatible with Western society and values, you can tell them that in Ontario, the local mosque was a stop in the village of Cumberland's annual Christmas market.

A reminder that Franklin is a book character from Canadian author Paulette Bourgeois and Canadian illustrator Brenda Clark.
As a Canadian, Franklin would only be able to enlist if he already had a Green Card (PR).
As a Canadian, he would have the right of return to Canada if deported from the US.

It's that time of year again. So here is my annual PSA... If you are making "Christmas Crack" aka Saltine Cracker Toffee, this season, it's much, much better with matzah as the base cracker. (Plain matzah, not egg matzah, definitely not whole wheat or spelt).

I have accidentally booked our family vacation to Vancouver during FIFA World Cup. (None of us care about soccer). What have I done to myself?

I don't get how English evolved so that "Applesauce" is one word, but "Sour Cream" is two.

I just saw an Instagram reel from a Mom about what she has to bring to her child's kindergarten Thanksgiving potluck.
And I want to acknowledgement that you poor American moms have to go from Thanksgiving straight into Christmas with absolutely no break in the invisible labour. Total bullshit.

1. When it comes to Graham Platner, I don’t have skin in the game. I live in CT, not ME. The good people of that state will figure out for themselves whether he has the right stuff to be their next senator. Indeed, there’s a lot to sort through, including the story of his Nazi tattoo.
A Nazi tattoo can’t keep a good (white) man down
In asking for trust, Graham Platner isn’t invoking the solidarity of class.

A few years ago, someone said something very, very racist to a coworker during a large meeting. Everyone in the room was shocked, and then looked away embarrassed. I wasn't there, but the next day was having coffee with a guy who was, and he said, "I just wasn't prepared."
I’ve been thinking and it’s kind of exceptional that not a single person said “Hey now” after the piggy comment.

Shawarma Guy: Rice, potato, pickles, salad...
Me: Tabbouleh, hummus, but just rice, no potatoes please.
Shawarma Guy (very solemnly): Ma'am it's very cold out today, so I'm giving you potatoes.

I cannot quantify the immense sense of inner joy I get from not doing most Christmas stuff.
We're an "interfaith" family, and our official line is "It's Chanukah at our house, but Christmas at Grandma and Grandpa's." But I just don't do any of the Christmas shit I hate...

It is officially winter in Ottawa, Canada. A man in the neighbourhood started making this giant snowman in 2021 in support of front line health care workers (they’d stand outside cheering in the evenings). The tradition continues, rebuilt (from his heart kept in the freezer all summer) for Nov 2025.

Also donating money is easier.
