The future of the Federal Reserve and whether it will continue to operate as an independent institution or become subject to the whims of the White House rests largely on Lisa Cook's shoulders after she filed a lawsuit challenging her attempted dismissal by President Trump.
How the Future of the Fed Came to Rest on Lisa Cook
President Trump’s effort to oust the Federal Reserve governor has kicked off a landmark legal battle, one that will have far-reaching consequences for the institution’s independence.

I love so many things about living in DC: walking to the park near our apartment to watch the dogs play, the public transit, the abundant excellent croissants, free museums, and weekend farmers markets, to name a few.

EJ Antoni has never worked in statistics collection. He is 5 years out of his PhD. He's only ever written one economics paper. His explicit, only qualifications are that he works in ultra-conservative think tanks & believes Trump's conspiracies about the BLS. Grim stuff.

Breaking news: Adriana Kugler is unexpectedly stepping down from the Federal Reserve’s powerful board of governors, creating an early vacancy that will give President Trump an early opportunity to shape the Fed’s leadership.

Terrible, but sadly, expected — and the latest remark in an Orwellian laundry list that suggests the president views gov economic data as a source of propaganda to make him look good, not to guide policy for the best interest of all Americans. Facts don’t matter, only Trump does.

I am so glad "why tariff banana" thought is reaching members of Congress. It's the most obvious example of how insane this administration's trade policy has been—officials like Lutnick can't give a good justification for it because there simply isn't one
DEAN: What's the tariff on bananas?

LUTNICK: Generally 10%

DEAN: Walmart has already increased the cost of bananas by 8%

LUTNICK: If you build in America, there is no tariff

DEAN: We cannot build bananas in America

If they can deport legal residents without consequences for "administrative error," that means they can deport _you_ without consequences for "errors"
A Maryland man who was in the U.S. legally was deported to El Salvador and imprisoned there because of an “administrative error,” Trump administration officials said in a court filing on Monday. The man has lived in the U.S. since 2019 and his wife and 5-year-old child are both U.S. citizens.

This is great advice, but as a DC resident it’s very frustrating to be concerned about the many federal workers in my life AND have no MoC to call
As a former Hill staffer, some advice: you need a good ASK. MoCs want constituents to feel heard but don't want to do anything new. Bad asks are vague, not time-bound, not verifiable. "Support human rights!" "Oppose Trump!" The Member will say they agree with you and do nothing. Here's a good ask:
