This is an important distinction about TERF brain I don't really think applies to other bigots: they don't just think you're wrong. They think you know you're wrong and are either ideologically captured or too afraid to admit otherwise

Attacking trans rights was never really about "protecting women." That rhetoric was just a convenient way to make cisgender women complicit in their own oppression, and to make cisgender men feel like "good guys" while oppressing cisgender women and people who are trans.
The EEOC has just voted 2-1 to remove the entirety of its employer guidance on sexual harassment because portions of it protected trans people.
