In November, the government announced plans to amend the British Nationality Act to make citizenship harder to obtain.

So after migrants meet new ILR requirements, they'll wait longer, pay more, jump through MORE hoops.

🧵 Here's why this is unfair… /1

It tells you everything you need to know that Reform are parachuting in a rent-an-extremist - this isn't about representing the people of Gorton and Denton, it's about using this place as a platform for their careers.

any guidance that bans trans women from single-sex spaces of any kind is rooted in bigotry.

there is no way to middle-ground this and @bphillipsonmp.bsky.social knows it.

we're not gonna stop. we're not gonna shut up. we're not gonna go away. we're just going to get louder and louder and louder.

Time for Government to stop tinkering around the edges and scrap leasehold altogether.
Ground rent cap is good news (though peppercorn would be better straight away). Also welcome is promised abolition of new leasehold properties. Better still would be the outright abolition of leasehold altogether, a feudal anachronism virtually unique to England and Wales.

Just a couple weeks left til the Home Office consultation deadline. If you're a UK citizen or a migrant living in the UK on any visa, please respond 🙏

This thread contains a list of resources to help you 🧵

If you read just one, I recommend @praxisprojects.bsky.social's question-by-question guide ✅
📌 Any migrants or others affected by Labour's immigration proposals, please take a few minutes to respond to the Home Office consultation with your honest thoughts. I will provide some pointers on how to interpret deceptively worded questions in this thread soon 🧵
Earned settlement
The government is consulting on how the current settlement system should be reformed and how those reforms should be implemented.

We’ve slept walk into this, we just need to wake up now. Alternatives have always existed. Use them.
France announced today it’s phasing out Teams, Zoom, etc. to be replaced with a French/European solution called Visio. The data is hosted on Outscale. Transcripts and subtitles are also handled by French providers. The target is set on 2027 for government agencies.

The defection of Suella Braverman, who was sacked twice from Government in disgrace, spent £700m of taxpayers' money to send four volunteers to Rwanda on a deportation scheme that was then scrapped and has a public approval rating of minus 32 is currently being described as a "major coup" for Reform

The UK version of “Project 2025” by the Reform party includes a British ICE, a concentration camp for 24,000 people, mass surveillance and withdrawing from refugee, anti-torture and anti-trafficking conventions.

It’s on their website. That’s how comfortable fascists are in the UK today.

As much as I hate to agree with anonymous Labour advisors, they're not wrong here.

A Green win really will be an existential threat to Labour: a painfully clear demonstration that Greens are the party to stop Reform, and that they're on track to be the country's main leftwing party.

A reminder that Labour's response to ICE murdering civilians in the US was to start a TikTok account bragging about immigration raids and for the Home Secretary to say she wants an AI "panopticon" society where you have the "eyes of the state on you at all times".

Can anyone give me a rough date for when the BBC started using this abusive term for trans women…?

I would like to send them a very detailed and specific FoI in relation to this “research””. Lying in response to an FoI request is a criminal offence.
The BBC claims to have “research” that supports its decision to use abusive transphobic terms for trans women.

But it will not share that “research”.

At the most basic level research is not research if it is not published.

It is just a lie. The BBC is lying.

We have ICE in the UK. They do everything ICE in America did up till a few months ago, and if you think what ICE is now doing in America can't happen here I have a bridge to sell you.

And no – they're not regular police. They work directly for the Home Office.
