As an influencer, Nick Shirley had struggled to expand his reach. But after a missionary trip pushed him to try a new approach, he caused a sensation with a video claiming to expose fraud at Somali-run day care centers in Minnesota. nyti.ms/45GzJi4

ICE tear gassed a bunch of children on Saturday. This was a massive escalation of force. They were shooting tear gas at the back of the crowd, it took these unmasked people maybe 3-5 minutes in the cloud of tear gas to escape in without trampling. www.theverge.com/policy/87278...

Follow up from @vlt.sh regarding my appearance on the Changelog. A new registry is in the works.
Notably, I actually started @vlt.sh to solve a lot of what you've highlighted on this pod. For the record, yes, we ARE building registry software. It's unfortunately taken longer then we'd like because but it's coming.

Wrote about the observers. The people standing by and filming and the risk they are taking to let the world see what is happening. It's crucial and its the only way to combat the lies and blatant propaganda. www.theatlantic.com/technology/2...

Putin pioneered this. No opposition is legitimate. Regular, decent, “ordinary” people cannot possibly be against us because only we represent “the real people.”

Tell-tale sign of authoritarianism.

The face painter: "I feel afraid. Only hours have passed since they shot a man right in front me and I don't feel like I can go home because I heard agents were looking for me. I don't know what the agents will do when they find me. I do know that they're not telling the truth about what happened."
We are seeing ordinary citizens — a children’s face painter and a doctor — come forth with sworn affidavits to describe the killing of the Minneapolis nurse.

In case you were wondering what courage looks like.

Rest in peace Alex Pretti. You will be remembered as a hero. I saw my immigrant neighbors out tonight mourning. You’ve touched the hearts of our immigrant community. We will not rest until justice is served.

I just watched the shooting video. It's a horrific beating and execution in the middle of the street.

If local and state officials don't move to arrest everyone involved for murder, they need to resign. Making arrests will de-escalate the situation. Do nothing and this is going to explode.

We owe an incredible debt to the Minnesotans who are on the streets protesting and documenting what is happening.

I need some positivity. Quote or reply with your favorite bike memory of 2025. It can be a great ride, an advocacy accomplishment, whatever. Let's celebrate bikes.

My personal favorite was finally doing a bikepacking ride up to Portland, Maine! It has me excited for bigger adventures in 2026.
