"What Havel knew, and what American MAGA triumphalists have forgotten, is that power built on performed compliance is fragile in a very specific way. It depends on the continued willingness of the powerless to keep performing."
“The strong do what they can" is what Athens said right before destroying itself. New piece on the Carney Doctrine, Vaclav’s grocer, and American hubris.

It has to be added that this demand is a staple of Kohler (see e.g. from 2016: www.faz.net/aktuell/poli...).

Whether this makes strategic sense or would instead lead to precisely the situation one wishes to avoid (providing a convenient pretext for further Russian aggression) is another question.

"the United States must help European partners recommit themselves to a new American transatlantic civilizational alliance" - In other words: reshaping Europe according to MAGA ideology. No, thank you, sir.
Apparently the State Department, led Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the nation's top diplomat, released a strategic plan. Goal 1 is U.S. National Sovereignty. Goal 2 is "The Western Hemisphere and Establishment of the Donroe Doctrine."

There's more, but take that in.

I was somewhat skeptical about “Neo-Royalism,” but ultimately I really liked the article. Perhaps it could be paired with “racket theory.”
One sentence stands out in particular: "all neo-royalists face threats from both the palace coup and the guillotine."

When soldiers from one NATO country need to - mentally and tactically - prepare for an attack from another NATO country, something has already been irrevocably broken.
Danish soldiers are under standing orders to engage any hostile activity on Greenland, including unannounced US activity.

"Coalition of the willing" is also a phrase that I really despise. Europeans know that the connotations of that from Iraq, well, are not exactly positive/successful. Not sure why Europeans have gone there when its really just about working around NATO and the EU.

I have spoken with Secretary of State Marco Rubio and our Ambassador in Caracas. The EU is closely monitoring the situation in Venezuela.

The EU has repeatedly stated that Mr Maduro lacks legitimacy and has defended a peaceful transition. (1/2)

I don't think one can underestimate what this means for Germany: since Konrad Adenauer, NATO and European integration have been the two pillars of German foreign policy. However, if the German government is pressured to choose between the two, I would put my money on European integration.
Deputy Secy of State Christopher Landau says the US “cannot pretend that we are partners” w/ NATO nations because the European Union—of which many are members—pursues “policies of civilizational suicide.”

Landau is a former clerk of SCOTUS Justice Thomas. Stephen Miller lobbied for his appointment.

I would not discount the impact of the NSS "civilizational" language. Political meddling in Europe to back far-right nationalists is now a core part of America's national strategy. This isn't just a speech from a novice VP weeks into a new term. It is US policy and they will try to implement it. 1/
