It's time we asked a different question about migration: Why are so many British people leaving the UK?

Yes, who would have thought. If you adopt a bash-liberals strategy, liberal voters will vote for someone else. And despite what they think in No.10, liberal voters do actually exist.
These are the voters that Labour strategists have made very clear over a long period of time that they don't want any more, and it's a message that has now been heard
I've been out canvassing quite a lot in London lately. Labour's vote has absolutely evaporated.... it is quite extraordinary to go to places where Labour were on 50-60% of the vote at the last locals and find nobody, or virtually nobody, supporting them.

The phrase 'I voted Labour last time, but...

Why did UK gov agree a reset without agreeing a price (if they did). Basic negotiation mistake.

Who needs to go out on a Friday night when there’s the ultimate 1980s political nerd content on offer? They don’t make ‘em like Kinnock any more.
“Farage will 𝙤𝙣𝙡𝙮 be defeated through practical achievements people can see - cutting waiting times, building houses...

We need articulate politicians to expose Reform to the light.”

Neil Kinnock on how Labour keeps Reform out of government.

This should be compulsory listening for the whole government. We need some facts to be made widely known to the public. That’s what government is supposed to do- public service information.
It’s out! I spoke to @zoejardiniere.bsky.social about migration, the realities, the challenges and how to confront the real threat of far right takeover of our country on a platform of fear and disinformation.

The British public will respond to someone who understands right and left at a visceral level. Only one senior Labour MP had left wing & right wing grandparents. Streeting needs to be let out to argue with the far right and not locked up or wherever he is. Changing PM is mad but let others speak.

Everyone who can, should apply for citizenship pronto but of course then they come for citizenship- naturalization etc..but we have to do what we can individually to protect ourselves and our friends etc. Horribly expensive though.
So Reform / Farage want to deport hundreds of thousands, possibly millions of UK residents, turning the country into an effective police state, breaking treaties, and impoverishing the economy and health service?

Just focus on all that. The moral gutter of politics.
Retrospectively removing indefinite leave to remain would be immoral and economically damaging. It would tear families apart.
Attacking it as ‘potentially illegal’ is completely beside the point.
Argue with the (awful) idea. Don’t try ’well, actually you can’t do that’.

Crikey- is this what the government is going with? What about people in Britain who are feeling very frightened by what they saw yesterday? They deserve representation.
September 14, 2025 at 9:29 AM
Quite. Today I just thought- good riddance. Yet again.
Hands up who's old enough to remember the drama of all the other Mandelson forced resignations? *wearily puts on kettle and forebears from muttering I told you so*

Such an interesting listen from my two favourite experts on international relations.
What is Britain's role in the world?

This week – @alexhh.bsky.social and @snellarthur.bsky.social discuss Britain's "progressive realism" approach to foreign policy.

An extraordinary lack of understanding of the importance of international law. Without international law, we have a lawless world. Just imagine we had no law in the UK, what do we think might happen? Shops looted, vengeance, people taking over other people’s property with a gun? Then extrapolate…

Every citizen in every democracy needs to understand habeus corpus and that their entire freedom depends on it. If it is removed, democracy is removed.
The madcap saga of horror and despair continues
HASSAN: What is habeas corpus?

NOEM: Habeas corpus is a constitutional right that the president has to be able to remove people from this country

HASSAN: That's incorrect

Not the most discussed element of the summit but I think the commitment on UK participation in the internal energy market is v significant. Unambiguous cherry picking which shows both UK willingness to reintegrate into single market and EU willingness to be flexible about it.

Today’s agreement between the UK and EU on sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) measures and emissions trading (ETS) cooperation is undoubtedly welcome.

Can’t help feeling pets did pretty well out of this deal. That’s so British.
Just one university - UCL - employs almost twice as many people as there are working in fishing boats.
A reminder that more people are employed in the yoga industry than there are registered fishers working in the UK.

For economic growth, SPS & ETS won't add much. As our research demonstrated. So today must be the beginning not the end of our ambition for removing trade barriers. That's got to be the priority for the next stage - alignment on conformity assessments for all goods (and services!)

Citizens of nowhere. Island of strangers. They never seem to think about the millions of us who interpret those 2 concepts very differently and positively. Multiple layers of identity or an island of multi-cultural people all working together as one community.
