Where is the kindness when we talk about trans people? Deeply empathetic essay from Kathy Sheridan. The take of the young girl at the centre of transphobic outrage at a match is a horror story, but this where transphobia takes people! #speirgorm

Kathy Sheridan: Where is the kindness when we talk about trans people?
Number of trans people in Irish society is tiny – and each one is a human being

In one of her first public actions as the newly elected Uachtarán na hÉireann (president of Ireland) Catherine Connolly has written a public letter of solidarity on Trans Remembrance Day. It is a very promising start.

I feel sorry for Troy having to do this chat when he’s clearly overwhelmed but also can’t help but think it’s great for young lads to see men showing emotion as well?

Nodding viciously at the crèche/childcare chats with @louisemcsharry.bsky.social
My husband and I are trying to WFH while my Mam minds our kids, because one is sick and the other can't go to crèche for fear of spreading it 🦠

And we're lucky to be in this position?? It doesn't feel like it

Apropos of recent comments by the Taoiseach and Tánaiste:

In September (the most recent data available), 44% of asylum decisions resulted in the applicant being considered eligible for international protection.

It is presently taking the State around 17 months to process a standard application.

"Fireworks were thrown into the building, causing a fire and putting lives at risk. This was a terrifying ordeal for the women and children living there, a number of whom were taken to hospital."

Watching Billy Kelleher there on RTÉ and just in that short chat proved just how baffling it was to choose Jim Gavin over him as a presidential candidate. Clear communication, thoughtful remarks, extensive experience AND the Irish language. FF must be banging their heads against the wall today.

Absolutely this and the freshness of Connolly’s campaign really made FG/FF’s approach look stale and out of touch.
Connolly's younger volunteers and organisers are fantastic and deserve huge credit.

Smart, optimistic, strategic, disciplined, tapped into culture, positive message-bearers, excellent communicators.

It's so great to see people putting their energy into a movement that expresses hope. 🇮🇪

A lot of people expressing surprise that some with such a big LGBT fan base would be anti-trans but unfortunately I saw plenty of members of the community at her gigs since she first started with this BS, which based on her recent posts probably emboldened her to speak on it again.

Decent explainer here on how barristers are obliged to work for all sorts of clients, breaking down aspects of the Bar Council's code, and how barristers are “bound to accept instructions in any case in the field in which they profess to practise (having regard to their experience and seniority)”.
Could Catherine Connolly have refused to act for banks in repossession cases?
