Insurance can’t make a nation safe from climate change

We can no more rely on insurers to protect us from floods than we can expect supermarkets to protect us from famines

Insurance is a one year contract. Once damage becomes likely you just cant buy it

Wins: Why we can’t insure our way out of the climate crisis
Just as bookmakers won’t take bets on a one-horse race, insurers will never offer insurance against inevitable sea level rise and floods.

The fight for fairness: Reforming superannuation in Australia
The Labor government must hold firm on its proposed superannuation laws. If it can’t implement this small change, how will it ever manage to deliver other desperately needed and meaningful reforms?

Andrew Hastie has 3 ‘stars’ on #4Corners -family, homes education. No mention of Lib govts making families’ lives more difficult through wage suppression and casualisation, defunding of public education and the CGT discount re ‘homes’. Yet, they continually get away with this ‘aspirational’ drivel.

This is a crazy-extraordinary event. By the 2016 WBM flood study it appears to be 1:500 flood, *out-of-season*. Taree's is largely a summer rainfall climate, definitely for extreme events. It'll be winter in 10 days.
Taree is peaking now at a bit over 6.3 m. This is a huge flood. For the time of year, it is extraordinary.

No idea why media still depicts Nats as a farmers party. They are a mining party beholden to coal and gas interests and funded by Gina Rinehart. When there is a conflict between farmers and fossil fuels, they always back fossil fuels. Their opposition to wind is to protect fossil fuels for longer.
