The first gannets of 2026 have returned and have been spotted flying over the Bass Rock💙🥳

Join us this week in the Discovery Experience for a gannet trail, a brand new gannet talk, and our wild island watch (where we might even spot a gannet through our scopes👀)

The extremely elusive ruin of St Patrick’s Chapel, behind the shore north of Gullane in East Lothian. It was in use in the early 16th century but was subsequently inundated by sand until excavated in the early 20th century. More pics and info: www.undiscoveredscot...

I took part in the church recording project at Whitekirk Church last Friday. When we were encouraged to take ten minutes to contemplate and draw a feature of the church I chose the font and the window behind it which both feature the descending dove motif.

Well I'm not the romantic type, I'm too old for anything fancy, but when it comes to wedding venues, I got you covered: Eskmills in Musselburgh. My wife and I got married there. It was the first venue we checked out and it just ticked all the boxes for us...

Well, that's a wrap on an absolutely fabulous open day at Whitekirk St Mary's Church, in East Lothian.

This was the second day of heritage activities we organised with our colleagues at @socantscot.bsky.social, as part of our collaborative @churchheritage.bsky.social (ReACH) project.

Dirleton Church in East Lothian was built in 1612 to replace the church in Gullane which was thought to be too exposed to sand blowing up from the beach. The pinnacles were added to the tower in 1836. #steeplesaturday
