St Mary’s Haddington 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 has some remarkable medieval oak timbers in the nave roof. My #dendrochronology work there dated them to the early 1400s and revealed them as Baltic baulks from the Gdansk region.

In the middle of an unassuming new-build housing estate in Prestonpans, just outside Edinburgh, you can find this imposing statue. The work of Andy Scott’s, who also designed the Kelpies, it is a memorial to the 81 men and women who, throughout the 17thC, were executed in the town for witchcraft.

With most areas not far from the average, it's very easy to see the outliers, all of which are having trouble with rebounding levels.

In Scotland the outlier is East Lothian.

'Bothwell' Castle, Haddington photo from 1903 & watercolour reconstruction suggestion. Did reconstruction years ago based on floor plan & old vague photo of ruin as nothing is left today (before finding intact photo from 1903 so measurements were off & conical roof too steep.

Yesterday's #ampersand, in one of our old favourite haunts, Cockenzie.

Besides always making these below the high tide line, today I also include evidence of another main method I use for ensuring the work is ephemeral in nature: a helpful ChildBot!
