My parents died a couple years before smartphones, and the only audio I ever had of them were voicemails that they’d left on whatever landline I had when they died, deleted when I moved and changed numbers. The writer’s longing to hear his dad’s voice one more time is palpable. Great read.

my 75yo mother told me last night that she’s planning to delete Instagram and Facebook because she’s sick of not being able to tell what’s AI and what’s not, and I genuinely don’t think tech companies have reckoned with this kind of move as an actual possibility

Sometimes the Canadian government can be incredibly frustrating and—uhhhh—not great, but sometimes your tax dollars go to WOLFCOP and ANOTHER WOLFCOP, and then you realize it might all be worth it.

"A scene in a script should never be longer in number of pages than it has number of characters." In short, a two person scene should never be longer than 2 pages.

Scott & I include a long dialog scene in every one of our movies that we are ALWAYS told is too long and will be cut, then never is.

This is really, really good, and gets to the heart of what I love about PLURIBUS: It's a story about an author who gets everything she wants -- security, adoring fans, endless time to write -- and won't stop looking for the catch.

Rob Reiner: I'm going to make a coming of age drama, a fantasy adventure story, a romantic comedy, a psychological horror and then a courtroom drama.

Us: Across your entire career?

Reiner: In a 6 year period.

Us: That sounds-

Reiner: -Each one will be arguably the best movie in that genre.

The cultural impact of Rob Reiner cannot be understated. Legend isn't big enough a word. It goes to 11. You can't handle the truth. As you wish. I'll have what she's having. I'm your number one fan. You guys wanna see a dead body? The very idea of a bucket list. The West Wing.

All from his movies.

Hey @lolofilm.bsky.social—thank you for making Wolfcop.

Finally watching it on Shudder and quite digging it. Ridiculously enteraining!

Also in another post tagged Joe Bob Brigg's The Last Drive-in (Shudder). He "aired" it in Oct. 2024, which I assume you know about.

I focus on story & characters first, but towards the end of that process, when I have set pieces, big ideas, and I know most of the beginning, middle, and end, I ask "Yeah, but what is this ABOUT?" I try to crack a big idea about the themes, which I implement in the 1st draft and sharpen in the 2nd.
@crobertcargill.bsky.social When you get a new idea, how much do you think about the themes, deeper meaning, what you want to say, before you start writing?

I have a lifetime to think about what a world without Alice in embodied form looks like. To have loved and been loved by her was one of the greatest privileges of my life. I will carry her spirit with me always.
Many thoughts about my cyborg bitch boss goddess accomplice Alice Wong & all the things she meant but there is a tendency for white disabled people to overshadow conversations about disabled BIPOC including in death. I choose to let Alice speak for herself & uplift those she wanted to represent her.

There is a spot where the video lags a little bit (I blame Zoom!) but it doesn't last long.

Please enjoy!

RIP Adam Greenberg
He was the superb cinematographer who shot Near Dark (watch it!), Terminator 2: Judgment Day and, of course, The Terminator, which means he’s responsible for one of my favourite shots in cinema that also coined a new genre for its film:
