In regards to what’s going on at the Berlinale film festival, here is footage of Godard & Truffaut shutting down the 1968 Cannes Film Festival in solidarity with students workers & protestors getting brutalized by police in the streets, & probably Godard’s best line about film criticism ever

This year is a very special year for horror fans, because it's the first time in eleven years that three Friday the 13ths will be taking place in a single year!

That happens to be the maximum amount of Friday the 13ths that can exist in a single year, and it won't happen again until 2037.

"Hades II is already a best-selling game that doesn’t need a boost from me, but it is incredible and Supergiant changed my life."

Matt Johnson of NIRVANA THE BAND THE SHOW THE MOVIE names Hades II in his Three Great Things:

louvre this
I was reminded earlier of this March 1993 Sports Illustrated contents page photo I have been absolutely amazed by since I first saw it. I want a full oral history. Especially from the photographer and his editor even more so than the unintentional subjects. A different heated rivalry, if you will.

Good thread - really resonates as the dad of teenage boys, this culture is everywhere and variants on “the perfect is the enemy of the good” is probably the advice I try to instil the most (often vainly!). Just get on with it and learn from doing it etc etc
There was a genesis to this phenomenon I've never seen spoken about.

8-10 years ago I used to be in a lot of online hobby spaces. They had long had a 'optimisation culture' where a many folk didn't do stuff guided by enjoyment, but by following an 'optimal' path....

The Challenger disaster is 40 years ago today. Adam Higginbotham's book on it was by far the best thing I read last year. Exhaustive, moving, and an all-around tremendous account of the event and its cause(s).

Iran has killed all connections to the outside. But in the early morning the regular internet works briefly. In that time, @hackimi.bsky.social sent me a letter about what it's like being a developer without the internet as the government tries to squash everyone:
