The Treasury is having private discussions about the #McCannReview recommendations, on top of the significant restrictions on it.

We’ve written to Ray McCann urging him to disown the whole review if he’s not allowed to resolve the #LoanChargeScandal.

Failed COVID PPE contracts during the pandemic cost UK public purse £1.4bn.

£762m lost - PPE over ordered and defective, delays in checking quality.

Govt trying to recover £468m.

But some got richer. Would govt snoop on their bank accounts, like it will on benefit claimants?

People struggle to get through HMRC phone lines, big corporations secure ‘sweetheart deals’.

Parliament can't check fairness/legality, all hidden behind a veil of confidentiality.

Veil can be lifted by public filing of the tax returns of large companies.

No major party supports transparency
Why the UK is a two-tier society where money wields power
Laws and policies are crafted to give the appearance of sternness and fairness, but are rarely fully enforced on corporations and the rich.

Maybe.. and hear me out here… Elon just isn’t very good at tech and firing everyone who was has turned out to be a mistake…

Our new report: local political parties are renting out office space to MPs — who claim the cost on expenses.

But in most cases, they pay no tax on that income — or on rent from local businesses.

We reviewed 630 sets of accounts. What we found is a systemic failure. 🧵

Why don’t we punish people who break company law?
It is ridiculously easy to create a company, and company law is there to protect us. But nobody is policing it. Why not?
