Pupusas. Parklets. A working cobbler.

I took a bike & @caltrain.com to B Street in San Mateo for the first time in 35 years and found a little bit of my childhood.

(Plus a bounty of 🇲🇽🇸🇻🇭🇳 food.)

Nostalgia and progress are a tough balance. This Bay Area downtown gets it right
With excellent Mexican food, huge parklets and even a full-time cobbler, San Mateo’s B Street has found the perfect blend of old and new.

Everyone Who Claims Congestion Pricing Is Elitist Or Bad For The Working Poor Is Lying To You - Jalopnik
If low-income workers could live without a car, that would put a whole lot of money back in their pockets, and that's exactly what congestion pricing does

Under the slender gaze of the Bay Bridge, the Sacramento Northern "Meteor" swings into Track #6 of SF's Transbay Terminal, the final leg of its trip.

Having left Chico at 12:15 PM, the Meteor's 5:58 PM arrival in SF marks the end of a long 187-mile interurban journey.

Harrison and Bryant desperately need road diets. They both stood out like sore thumbs on the fatal crash map from last year, and here’s another fatality on Harrison.

How is it 10 years into Vision Zero a 4-lane one-way stroad is still considered acceptable?

It’s not a weird turn, it’s a logical response to police failing over & over again to be effective & reliable partners on traffic safety initiatives. At some point advocates had to stop wasting time trying to shift the police culture & instead focus elsewhere.
🚨 In @theatlantic.com today, I argue the safe streets movement has taken a weird turn. Under the banner Vision Zero, not only is there just one acceptable solution—costly road redesign—but reformers now dismiss the importance of enforcement. Expedient, but deadly.

Shoutout to the cyclists who rallied today to keep the Richmond–San Rafael Bridge bike lane open!

Low numbers of people using it is because Marin deliberately failed to create safe connections on its side in order to create this story of low usage. I've biked it once, the approach is terrifying.

This story made my entire day. Well, it's 945A but I'm sure it won't get better than this.
It’s 6:40am at LAX. In line at the convenience store, an older man was having trouble with his credit card and jokingly asked me “can I have your credit card?”

I laughed and said “I’m black. Give me YOUR credit card. Reparations.” The black lady working the register burst out laughing.
