Y’all, AWP FOMO is nothing compared with Hospital FOMO—my almost 92-year-old dad had hip surgery yesterday—it went well—& now I’m like “Am I in time to catch the surgeon? What if Dad wakes up and I’m not here? Will I miss the case worker/OT/PT if I go to the bathroom/get coffee/go home/cry outside?

Airing this old footage is unconscionable and unethical. jfc.
If you're wondering how mainstream media is covering the broad-based peaceful resistance in Minnesota, this morning @cnn.com aired footage of the Minneapolis 3rd Precinct fire *from the 2020 riots* as if it happened last night. This isn't just misleading, it's a dirty rotten lie.

I worry that as we narrow the range of what we can talk about, think about, spend our time on, our ability to make expansive art and language shrinks, too, and so does our ability then to solve big problems and think creatively - all of which is the terrible point of fascism

A lot of carceral workers are nonwhite people.

Another example of why we need to deal with the racial politics of how people are recruited and encouraged to become carceral workers, and how the pathologizing of nonwhite communities and their “redemption” through carceral service are part of that.

Another stunner in the Process series from @icefloepress.bsky.social. Inspiring, illuminating—this time how a page from a novel became a collaged erasure poem. #ErasurePoetry #Process #Poetry icefloepress.net/2026/01/09/l...

If you want understanding this morning, of course read the historians and the journalists and the political scientists. But please also read James Baldwin and Mary Oliver and Ted Berrigan and Nikki Giovanni and the other poets. They always saw history coming.

Please enjoy the whole of @toddedillard.bsky.social's remarkably moving, Pushcart-nominated poem, "What the Husband Keeps," from Issue 20 of Stanchion Magazine.

Arkansas will become the first state to lose PBS.

The state-wide network will switch to local programming in 2026 — after a vote by a board appointed by Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders.

The end of federal funding for public media demolishes Arkansas PBS. The station will rebrand as ATV and feature mainly local programming.
