Holy shit. This actually works?
Breaking News: Following several days of massive anti-corruption protests, the government of Bulgaria has now resigned. The government that resigned was kinda pro Russian, or at least sympathetic.

these are two slightly different things but the point is that academia runs on two things: helping others and holding grudges. often at the same time and for the same people. we cannot lose this

"Shapiro believes that it will demand humility on the part of Democrats, a sincere accounting of how they contributed to the electorate's fracturing along lines of class and culture."

No.
Failing to prosecute Jan 6 criminals and being civil to MAGA zealots is how we got here.

Today's concert was joyous and whimsical AND full of Christmas favorites. So much fun, as both an audience member and a singer.

Yeah sex is good but have you ever had your spouse take over the annual health insurance open enrollment comparison spreadsheet, spend half the weekend agonizing over fine print and medical jargon, and come to the conclusion that the plan you picked last year is truly the least bad option?

Just saw a horrifying ICE ad in my Facebook feed. (I know, I should expect that from Zuck now and should have stopped using FB long time ago).

But holy crap, this was gross. For so many reasons.

Today, November 12th, at 8:35 a.m., every single phone number here was unavailable to accept a voicemail. And apparently he doesn't make his staff work before 9:00 a.m. so no one answers the calls in person before that time.

Must be nice.

I'm working full-time without pay. Why aren't they?

It’s not that we didn’t want the shutdown to end, it’s the fact that millions of people suffered throughout this shutdown and it was for nothing. That’s the most upsetting part.

That is not a reasonable chance! Where the hell did you learn math???

And with Republicans? Forget it.
Angus King: "This initial strategy didn't work. And now we have one. We're gonna have a guaranteed vote on the ACA, and it may not succeed. I grant that. But a reasonable chance -- 10, 20, 30% -- is a lot better than 0% which is where we were."

A reminder - last March, republicans promised to restore $1.1B in funding to DC in exchange for funding the government, and Mike Johnson never took it up in the House.

Have you somehow never met Mitch McConnell?!??

Nothing is going to feel special this year except perhaps for the new high bar for disagreeing with even MORE of your relatives than usual.

Especially the ones who claim they "aren't political" but grill you on the price of gas across in cities vs the country and complain about the price of beef.

To my surprise, she kept going: “It’s obvious the whole convo is off record. There’s disappearing messages and it’s on signal. What is your story? You never told me about a story.”

The dumbest people. Truly.
EXCLUSIVE: One Saturday afternoon in October, my phone lit up with a notification.

I glanced down at the message.

“Anna, Lindsey Halligan here,” it began.

So began my text exchange with the woman who is prosecuting the president's perceived political enemies.

Looks like the “official” gov decided it was time to put their mark on Bluesky. Every single one starts out with a Hatch Act violation for a post and every single one deserves a block. Let’s make sure they have their own little echo chamber and block the shit out of them. If you see any others, add.

Here is a list of the government accounts that have showed up so far. I've already blocked them so I'll list the links to the accounts.

"not helping would hurt more"

Yes. That's what I'm feeling now too, just can't explain it well.
I was telling my wife how it’s hard to know how much is happening in the world & how I can’t change anything…then I stopped

Because what is ACTUALLY hard is knowing that I do have power

Just a little

& I know it is not enough

& I know trying to help is hurting me

But not helping would hurt more

Anyone else have the most depression-riddled Monday of all Mondays?
October 6, 2025 at 9:30 PM
Yup.

This is totally who we are. Always has been. We need to own that shame.
I think what’s most frustrating right now for Black and Indigneous people is waiting for the bulk of white folks to catch up.

At some point the “this isn’t who we are” and “I didn’t have this on my bingo card” has to end and y’all will catch up, right? RIGHT?

WE NEED YOU TO CATCH UP.
