Good morning, and happy Sunday!

Today, we share our first Guest Post of A Month of Rain and Reads. In it @zzclaybourne.bsky.social talks about reading as a connection rather than as an escape.

How have your favourite books change you?

I would encourage you to pressure your political representatives to legislate against monopolies, to inject local money into booksellers and libraries, to challenge IP laws that benefit Amazon (such as Audible or similar exclusivity), and most of all to support worker's rights and union power.

Revisited Orwell’s 1984 since the 2025 theme for #BannedBooksWeek draws from his last novel.
Love or hate it, also still has salience for people.
I prefer the adaptation filmed in 1984, now a date passed, which nails a satiric vision of the future, at a present, informed by the past.

Censorship is so 1984. Read for your rights.

Today kicks off #BannedBooksWeek, and this year's theme reminds us that the right to read belongs to all of us, that censorship has no place in contemporary society, and that we must defend our rights.
