This piece is spellbinding throughout. This bit in particular captures so beautifully my own feelings about being disabled, though it’s from the perspective of a parent to a disabled child. My experiences are part of who I am and have made me a better friend, colleague, neighbour.

The Vietnamese word for a ladybird, bọ rùa, means “turtle bug.” The Ukrainian word, сонечко (sonechko), means “little sun.” And the Norwegian word, marihøne, means “Mary’s chicken.” But my favourite word for a ladybird will always be the Welsh buwch goch gota, which I’d translate as “stubby red cow”

I’ve been saying for years the watercolour backgrounds make this film special. That and Lilo and her sisters relationship… at that point, there had been nothing like it in Disney.
Lilo & Stitch is one of Disney's best movies. It was meant to be a risk -- a "smaller, gutsier film."

It's so sneaky/sinister that Disney turned the ice cream guy into a native Hawaiian man. Lilo taking pictures of white mainland tourists is a kind of coping mechanism for being treated like an attraction/novelty, it's a vital part of her character. Disney clearly wants to defang the original film.
