I’m talking to my siblings in Scotland on my birthday… and end up reading out some of Emma Southon’s book. This makes me laugh so much. I will read her new book this month!

So that's three problems facing the government of Rome. The easiest way to resolve these issues, as far as our protagonist Tiberius Gracchus was concerned, was to redistribute the land. Settle landless Roman citizens on Roman land to farm it and basically all three problems were solved in one fell swoop, with the added benefit - for Tiberius Gracchus - that Tiberius Gracchus would be a hero to the Roman people for the rest of time. He was far from the first person to suggest land redistribution. The first had been the consul Spurius Cassius Vecellinus in 486все - the people of Rome were delighted; the Senate, horrified. His co-consul and all other senators acted as though he were trying to cut off their legs. They accused him of being far too popular and trying to destroy their liberty, and eventually his own father held a household trial, found him guilty of something, had him scourged through the streets of Rome and then publicly executed him.' That, unsurprisingly, put a dampener on land reform for a while.

Finished Rome with my son, *sigh* that was a good series, great cast, ended too soon. It was flawed, never like the guy who played older Octavian. Atia, Mark Antony and of course Pullo and Vorenus. ❤️

An Edward sketch for my daughter… she’s reading the entire series which is a huge first for her, she’s now on the 5th book. I’d not seen the movies before… interesting, stylist choices that have dated a bit. I get why they were huge, not my thing. We also saw The Batman, or Batman goes to Glasgow.
