Every news story is now “State Senator Randy Pervert (R-Springfield) was indicted on 8 counts of lewd behavior with a child under 12 and has been put on paid leave from his two jobs as Border Patrol liaison and youth pastor at First Presbyterian (PCA) where parishioners say they were ‘blindsided.’”

gonna need some advice eventually from @craigcalcaterra.bsky.social about social media damage control for when I inevitably type 'Chase Buns' instead of 'Chase Burns' in a headline and don't catch it in time

NBC ran a piece where Mary Carrillo went to Norway to find out why they're so good at the Winter Olympics and i was yelling BECAUSE IT'S COLD THERE

then she went to a little tiny ski jump for kids and was like "it's free, equipment is provided, & they don't emphasize results"

and i was like.
oh!

Well which is it? Are you for birthright citizenship or against?
From @theathletic.com: Vice President JD Vance does not seem to agree with Eileen Gu's choice to represent China, rather than the United States, at the Olympics. Gu, who was born in San Francisco, has won five medals for China, where her mother is from. nyti.ms/3ZJtaYv
JD Vance insinuates Eileen Gu should be representing the United States at Winter Olympics
Gu was born in 2003, and her mother, Yan Gu, is a first-generation Chinese immigrant. Her father is American.

I can’t help thinking there’s so much money changing hands wrt ICE detention that there aren’t even enough investigative reporters to track

Seeing other MLB teams posting from spring training on Bluesky is awesome until I then remember that the team I follow and cover doesn't do so for some reason, even though they came over and made an account and said they were going to start before the 2025 season. They then deleted all posts.

Thought the Derek Johnson/Vandy pipeline might land him with the Reds, but I think he's got a clearer path to the Padres rotation than he would have in Cincinnati.

I've got a theory that even when people aren't actually looking at their phones, the phone-based communication era has created a lack of regular eye-contact with other human beings that has put spatial blinders on an entire generation of humanity.
The near-total absence of spatial awareness in outdoor spaces is one of those things that would make me furious if it didn't amaze me. People walk around as if no one or nothing else exists. Maybe it's the phones. I don't know.

my favorite Robert Duvall role is where he appears as a priest on a swing for 2 seconds for no apparent reason in Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978)
