Ann Lowe was the Black genius behind Jackie Kennedy’s iconic wedding gown.

Before the fashion world was ready to credit a Black woman’s talent, Lowe was already designing for America’s most powerful families. Brilliant. Bold. Innovative. Undervalued. And nearly erased from history.

Alice Wong taught us that disabled people don’t just leave memories behind—they leave infrastructure. Lineages of care. Methods of collectivity, survival. She named the connective tissue that holds our communities together, even across death, even across the losses that come too fast and too often.

I’m doing research for a project and found out about the “don’t buy where you can’t work” movement during the depression, where Black people boycotted and picketed places that wouldn’t hire us. Shout out to everyone who’s not going back to Target!

Jane Goodall was my first childhood hero, as I loved animals as a kid and was inspired by her story. I still remember the National Geographic specials about her. RIP.

The Air Canada strike was a big win for workers — and hopefully a blow against government strike busting, which has become all-too common.

The Air Canada strike resolution was a big win for flight attendants – and all workers
With any luck, governments will now be hesitant to use the Labour Code to undermine the right to strike. After all, the best deals are made at the bargaining table, right?

the guaranteed provision of a home for everyone is the only solution to mass homelessness, and this is a basic requirement of a functional society
“In Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. Those affected receive a small apartment & counselling with no preconditions. 4 out of 5 people affected make their way back into a stable life. And all this is CHEAPER than accepting homelessness.”

It costs a lot less to house people.
Finland ends homelessness and provides shelter for all in need - scoop.me

Yeah, it's quite the paradox that the people who understand AI aren't impressed by it. A real head scratcher.
Why Understanding AI Doesn’t Necessarily Lead People to Embrace It

Reporter: "Can you explain just what precisely the Premier said that you're saying is untruthful?"

Sol: "That he respects and honours the duty to consult. That's not the truth. The way [Bill 5] is written up speaks the opposite."

The automation of Brandolini’s Law
This is exactly what I mean when I say that it is impossible to reduce friction, only to move it around.

The text-making-up machine dropped the friction of "research" to zero, but every single person downstream of that "research" who has to act upon it now shoulders a double workload.
Librarian here. Got an email from a patron about our "poor selection" of books on AI, w/ list of new books that we HAD to get so ppl could stay informed about this important subject. Title, author, synopsis.

Of 11 titles on the list, 10 Did Not Exist. At all.
