Love to see the Sedgwick County Zoo putting out a good explainer on why GenAI slop videos of animals are a problem & how to identify them! It’s succinct, easy to read, and doesn’t shame people for not knowing better. A+ useful link to share with family and friends.

The Reality of AI Animal Content – Sedgwick County Zoo
If you spend any time on social media, you’ve probably seen them – bears bouncing on trampolines, apes caught on doorbell cameras, or “rescued” wild animals acting in ways that seem too good to be…

As of this morning, Starbucks workers across the country are officially ON STRIKE. And we're prepared for this to become the biggest and longest ULP strike in Starbucks history.

Say #NoContractNoCoffee with us: DON'T BUY STARBUCKS for the duration of our open-ended ULP strike! $SBUX

If you're still publishing on Substack, these are your colleagues. Substack is not some open public square where you tolerate sharing space with a range of people. They are a publisher—and the very "discoverability" features you praise for bringing in new readers are putting your work beside this.
I’ve tolerated the Substack app because writers I value publish there, & its daily notifications for people I don’t follow are tedious but ignorable. Today it pushed me straight hate speech. I hope settings>notifications>preferences>marketing>”suggested content” is the way to turn this off but oy

Honestly I think this was the quote that sent me over the top. This is bootstrap/ The Secret theology repackaged to blame kids when AI school fails them. So gross.

When I see people complain about male loneliness, it is so painfully OBVIOUS to me that most of these lonely men are men who feel entitled to a woman who does that labor for them, who acts as their agent enmeshing them into community through unpaid pro-social labor on their behalf.

I have a banger thread on informal feminized labor and "male loneliness epidemic discourse" cooked up in my head, but I can't get my kids to leave me along long enough for me to write it

There is no ethical AI. The tech is based on stolen intellectual property, anti-solidarity between workers, labor exploitation, environmental injustice, climate destabilization, structural racism, and gender inequalities.

AI is deskilling our young people to the extent that they no longer have the ability, or at least resolve, to craft their own *texts.*

The widespread adoption of these technologies is actually a form of child abuse. We are systematically destroying human potential

honestly mostly what these fox graphics that clearly take completely for granted that the good things will be understood by the audience to be bad make me feel is that the gulf between me and the people who watch this is fundamentally insurmountable

I gotta say I find a lot of AI discourse around higher ed very confusing. "if ChatGPT can write your essays is college even worth it?" did people think math teachers were assigning problem sets because *they* couldn't figure out the answers?

In her dissent from today's decision—Mahmoud v. Taylor—Justice Sotomayor says that the court's holding "threatens the very essence of public education," and that its "reverberations" will be felt "for generations." This is a very heartfelt and mournful dissent. www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/24p...

Sotomayor, in dissent, correctly says that today's decision in Mahmoud will lead public schools to simply censor books featuring LGBTQ characters and themes, creating "chaos" and stigmatizing children with LGBTQ families. This decision will lead to book bans.
