Yep. People incorrectly think it increases sales when it actually harms most writers’ incomes. It’s especially bad for children’s and YA authors when school visits get cancelled too. That’s often how they make enough money to support themselves 😔
You have no idea what it is to have your book banned if you're excited or asking for it. Take it from someone who has. All you're doing is encouraging dismantling of our freedoms in America. Knock this useless shit off and show up to a board meeting and fight.
honestly, fuckin ban my shit bro

i quit smoking cigarettes in 2020 and i need a new way to feel badass while i’m whittling away the minutes

What a powerful video!
Words matter.

The R word blinds people from seeing capabilities.

Its use degrades and dehumanizes people with disabilities. When it's hurtful and wounds millions of people, their families and friends.

Don’t forget if the Institute of Museum and Library Services doesn’t get funded next year, many public libraries won’t be able to fund ILL anymore. Write your legislators to support IMLS funding, please!
A couple weeks ago we got a lovely note from someone on the other side of the country thanking us profusely for ILLing a book to them. Curious, we looked up the book they borrowed.

It would have cost $1,200 for them to purchase it.

ILL is one of the things I love most about libraries.
Requested a book through ILL over break. It arrived today. Libraries man.

So happy educators are being pushed HARD to use LLMs with students. 😳 There is no way to teach someone how to use a tool ethically when it is unsafe and biased at its core.

So, one of the main reasons they let girls in was because of their dire financial situation due to lawsuits over sexual abuse. It wasn’t some spirit of inclusivity that suddenly overtook the organization. This move hurt the Girl Scouts which is a very inclusive organization.
Congress requires DOD to facilitate Scouts activities but the Secretary can ignore the law in cases where it is “detrimental to national security." Hegseth is preparing to do so because the scouts have become too inclusive of girls.

An excellent visual depiction of extreme wealth versus everyone else.
Part of this week’s newsletter was inspired by the post below. Was there a way to show the distance between normal Americans and the super wealthy?

They had excellent reporting. This is depressing.
They just gutted Teen Vogue which had top notch political journalism. The media is continuing to purge any sort of political dissent to Trump and the oligarchs.

Influencers are now spreading misinformation about mammograms. 😡
Some of the mammogram myths we keep hearing:

❌ "Mammogram radiation causes breast cancer"
❌ "The compression can make cancer burst and spread"
❌ "The radiation is dangerous"

None of this is true!

EXCLUSIVE: One Saturday afternoon in October, my phone lit up with a notification.

I glanced down at the message.

“Anna, Lindsey Halligan here,” it began.

So began my text exchange with the woman who is prosecuting the president's perceived political enemies.

⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️ Plus, students don’t need plain language summaries. They need to start grappling with the vocabulary and discourse in their intended fields.
I've received an 'exclusive' invite to try Nature's new 'research assistant', which will burn down a forest to provide a 'summary of the paper' I'm reading and I have SUCH exciting news for them, that's called an 'abstract' and the actual authors already wrote it for me, no forest-burning required.

If they’re going to collect tariff money, it should be used to help our citizens. Maybe fund healthcare by extending the premium subsidies that made ACA plans affordable?
The US is going to bailout Argentina with your tariff money.
