For Kath I think they're actually one in the same. If she makes a promise or oath, her goal becomes to fulfill that promise.
If somehow two oaths come into conflict, she has an internal hierarchy to decide which she works to serve. The thing about oaths though, is that they go both ways.

I think it's probably unsurprising that Kath would be extremely responsible. Being given a task and having someone relying on her to fulfill an expectation is a space where she thrives.

Kath gets through fancy gatherings with gritted teeth, but are an expected part of her duties. Especially after she gets knighted and becomes de jure nobility.
But she is one of the guards that any prospective heisters will need to deal with, and she won't be in a good mood should she catch them.

Kath and Lynna are the two core characters, and the chapters go back and forth between their perspectives. After the inciting incident they're almost always in the same location if not in the same scene. It's ultimately a romance, after all. Gotta see them doing romanticing.
