Fake audiophiles "listen" to vinyl records on turntables, like posers. A true audiophile knows the purest way to experience music is to marvel at the peaks and valleys in the record grooves with an electron microscope.

too much bluster and divisiveness in being the best at food.

british is a respectable top ten in sausages, cheese, and desserts imo

you can climb a doubling ladder to get a *feel* for it. 2, 4, 8, 16... ten doublings is about a thousand. ten more doublings about a million. ten more, about a billion.

you'll lose hold of it on the way, but the vertigo lets you know what we're dealing with.
People think a billion is like a million but a bit more. I mean, I can imagine a million of something. Even a few hundred million. It’s a lot, but I can DO it

People don’t know how much a billion is. You don’t. I don’t. It’s not possible to really know it. It’s a fucking inconceivably large number
again we do not really do a good job of explaining how wealthy people like Jeff Bezos are

his net worth is $253.2 billion.
so he could take one million dollars, and just light it on fire
and then do it again tomorrow
and again the day after that
and then do it every day for 693 years and 8 months

Following the release of the Epstein files Jk Rowling has deleted a decade of port logs belonging to the Super yacht Samsara.

What is she hiding?

This is Jerry Lawson. He invented the video game cartridge for the Fairchild Channel F system. Because of his invention, many consoles had cartridges and CD formats and would become the norm.

The Atari 2600, NES, Genesis, and many consoles wouldn't exist without him.

Happy Black History Month.

"We're better at making good things than bad. We've had more practice."

powerful and important reminder
we invented pornographic art tens of thousands of years before written language.

we invented the condom before steel.

Bread is older than war. Beer is older than borders.

We're better at making good things than bad. We've had more practice.

yes, and i can recommend Titanic Sinks Tonight on this basis - the additional details come from direct accounts of survivors.
a suggestion for dramatisations of actual disasters: the urge to add additional tragic details that there's no documentary evidence of - and in so doing morally implicating people who by all accounts did everything that could be reasonably expected, and more besides - is one that should be resisted.

What do you folks think about underwater levels/areas in games? I feel like the public discourse around whether they're good or not on a general basis has flip flopped so many times over the years based on how well the latest big release that featured them managed to pull them off
