Leicester Cycling Campaign Group is a pressure group formed in 2012 to improve conditions for people who cycle in and around Leicester. Our aim is to "make cycling normal'.

Have you ever seen a bike lane sweeper - pulled behind a bike?

Volunteers in Kirkland have a new tool that attaches to the back of an e-bike. It's good for protected bike lanes, sidewalks, and narrow trails.

A great write up, thank you.
Your powers of recall are stupendous, especially given the temperatures on the day. Boring Leicester actually fits with the @leicestercyclingcg.bsky.social vision of #MakingCyclingNormal.

What is surprising is that Loughborough university is dominated by athletes. I see cyclists and runners all the time obviously from the university and they are having to navigate very dangerous roads due to idiotic drivists.

Very interesting and good on Leicester. A shame Leicestershire is failing though. I live just outside Loughborough and there is some really dodgy cycle infra.

Back in July, I went for a cycle around Leicester, 10 years after the last time I cycled around Leicester.

A useful reminder of changing road conditions after drought.
Heavy shower here and the road was foaming in a couple of places where water, oil and other road grime are forming an emulsion as it's been dry for so long.

Go careful people - I expect it'll be very slippery in places.

Looking through the LCWIP, the routes selected for cycling improvements highlight a lot of side road and junction updates, which is good. Am I missing though whether there are any specific improvements for cycling? separation/lanes/ASL's etc?

Something I just read prompted me to check some government figures. In 2023, 34.52m people held driving licences out of a population of 68.3m. That's just 51% of people

Interestingly, DfT like to calculate this percentage using the *adult* population, which gives 74%

We were delighted to be able to bring Ranty up to date with all things cycling in Leicester, and the odd cold beer on a very hot day. Can't wait to hear his verdict.
It was a blast to be out with @leicestercyclingcg.bsky.social and friends updating my knowledge of the cycle network of the city and beyond. Apart from quiet city centre streets, the best part of 12 miles off carriageways and on greenways.
