People need to understand just how openly genocidal the rhetoric on the far right is getting towards transgender people. They're openly talking about eradicating us and forcefully mass institutionalizing all trans people.

These are people with direct ties to the Trump administration.

The idea that the pro-trans and pro-LGBTQ movements went “too far” is ahistorical, just like the idea that BLM or MeToo went “too far.” It just didn’t happen

The idea that pro-trans movements led to anti-trans sentiment is egregiously out of touch with reality. Increased LGBTQ representation led to historic shifts in public opinion toward the community. The aggressively bigoted and violent campaigns that lied about trans people are clearly responsible

If (as this administration claims) gender identity is “gender ideology,” and ideology is expressed through speech, then restricting my ability to express my gender identity is a first amendment violation of my right to free speech.

Dunno if the courts will agree, but I love this line of thought.
The law is clear: Americans are protected from being compelled by the government to engage in speech with which they disagree.

By making passports ideological, argues attorney Miles Whitney, the Trump administration has turned them into government-compelled speech.

Trump’s executive order defining sex made it clear that passport sex markers will now carry an ideological message. The constitution protects Americans from being forced to endorse ideological message...

I'm two books into my annual re-read (well, re-listen of the audiobooks) of The Expanse series. And once again I'm reminded that one of my top three literary characters is Chrisjen Avasarala.

[also, LOVED the books, the TV show was ok-ish, sort of]

Dark money groups like Do No Harm will spend millions on ads promoting it. Conservative media will similarly promote it and push it nonstop. It'll be a chorus of bad actors promoting this pseudo science backed by the federal government to eradicate a minority group.

Can I be proud of the program I got my PhD from & thankful for the people who made it happen & thankful for & invested in the lives of people I worked with/for for 12+ years WHILE despising the state (& state gov't) that's currently destroying that university & that I'm thankful I left in March?

Extremely devastating news for transgender people in the United Kingdom.

So much of what we face in the United States has shared roots in that country, and this Supreme Court decision there will make people far less free.

Crackdowns on trans people are international, not limited to borders.
The UK Supreme Court has unanimously decided that the definition of sex under the Equality Act 2010 refers solely to biological sex, and does not include people with a Gender Recognition Certificate.
