It takes a particular kind of ideological unawareness of the U.K. interest to look at what’s going on in the world and think that this is a good moment for the uk to leave the council of Europe.

I remember when ‘foreign billionaire plots to overthrow British parliamentary democracy’ was a left conspiracy theory, or at least a James Bond plot. Now it’s all in the open as if there were nothing to be ashamed about.

Fact-checking wasn’t “biased” against conservatives. Conservatives just shared more false content. If there’s a sportsball game and one team fouls four times as much, it’s not “biased” for the ref to call four times as many fouls against that team.

Meta is dropping fact-checking to avoid anti-conservative bias- but is there actually evidence of bias?
We this test empirically & find that conservatives
* ARE suspended more
* BUT share more misinfo
So suspension isn't necessarily evidence of bias www.nature.com/articles/s41...

this kind of obviously biased headline is so frustrating when MSM is fighting for credibility
1) New Year’s Honours list is nominated by public not by political leaders
2) Khan has won three elections so the average Londoner clearly doesn’t think he’s a failure

Especially when you consider that one of the Tory opponents he beat to the mayoralty was then handed a seat in the Lords. Sadiq deserves his honour immensely, which is more than can be said for most politicians who receive gongs
Don’t recall there being much outrage when Conservative Downing Sts in every administration of last 14 yrs doled out honours to scores of backbench MPs basically for just being MPs.
We should have far fewer political honours but the thrice elected Mayor of London is a weird place to start.

£715m that could have been spent on public services, but instead we used it to send four people (voluntarily) to Rwanda. Scandalous
In July, I FOI'd the Home Office for the full breakdown of spending on the Rwanda scheme
I was refused because the government planned to publish the data in future, and today is the day. These numbers are in millions

100%
my opinion is that when the other lot have spent years not only going low but relentlessly finding new and exciting ways in which to go lower, then maybe you too can go low just this one time to prevent a man who's had a complicated life from being used as a torture puppet for four years

🧵More in Common have spent the past few months polling & talking to people about assisted dying, we've shared our findings in today's Sunday Times. Speaking to people on both sides has been some of the most moving opinion work I've been involved in. www.thetimes.com/uk/politics/...
